Hey Rhys....the only thing I can add about these is that they go through the fan belts quickly because of the twist up and over with the flat mount fan. I know that when the belt lets go, the power increase is noticable. From the conversion that I know of, they were looking at doing a fan not run of the pulley....to aid with more power. not sure where these people are now as it was a few years ago.
chase up mr930 im sure he had a couple of the motors,,
cheers...:beer

G'day Rhys,
One of the guys in Bendigo has a beach buggy with one in it and it lifts the front wheels off the ground, I sold him 2 motors that I had a couple of years ago.
They run opposite direction to VW motors and can be fitted 1 of 2 ways, original direction (anticlockwise) with special starter and gearbox running backwards (works ok) or with reverse direction cam to enable it to run clockwise.
I fitted one to a Spllitty in 1977 which was running anticlockwise, I used a Type 3 box and fitted the reduction boxes to it (1500 Splitty) and it worked very well. My mate drove it to Perth and back twice without any dramas.
These motors were designed by Puegot in the fifties but they decided not to use them so Chevrolet (GM) bought the design and built the Corvair around it including Sedans, Wagons, forward control Vans, Buses, Twincabs and Singlecabs.
They are a pretty awsome motor but parts are getting harder to get. There is a bit of info on the Web and try Mick Clay in Melbourne who still had a bit of stuff a few years back.
Have fun,
Cheers, Ian.

hey guys
i emailed clarks and they no longer do the kits for them anymore and dont really do anything VW wise for them! th reason i ask is that the local VW guy has one sitting and im trying to convince him to sell it to me (he use to have it in his dual cab until the piston and cylinders went he has had this conversion for over 30 years!!) it has all the trick bits in it but would need a piston and cylinder kit!
thanks for all the info i will contact mark and ask him!
keep the info coming!
cheers

dude, 160hp os not that much. a well sorted stroker or a standard suby EJ25 both produce more.
BTW, you guys were talking about dissing the fan belt before...Has anyone ever thought of using two electric thermo fans on top of one of these?
I was thinking one stacked on top of the other. I know they suck current, but they probably suck less current than the standard fan does power. You could even set them up an temp switches so it only used one when Idling but two when it got warmer....just an idea, I spose you could do the same for a VW motor. You'd just need a good alternater.
my old man has a 65 corsa turbo(had it stored for 30 years)
130mph stock standard
beautiful looking car
will get stuck into the resto after i finish my oval
also used to run one in his 53 vert(it was the late seventies!)and it would lift the front wheels but the fan belt problems drove him to putting a 2180 in it nn[ Edited on 20-9-2005 by jnr356 ]
