most tv&vcr repair places can copy over from one format to another. other option is if you have a vcr which can play the ntsc format and another that can record sound and video from your tv when first vcr is playing.. this will copy it over to pal.
see.... air and water do mix 😉

r u sure? i think i tried this long ago.
is it that the 2nd vcr is copying wats being shown on the tv, not the signal directly from the other vcr?

yeah... it records the image and sound from the tv and not from the other vcr... other option is if you have both vcrs capable of ntsc and pal formats you should be able to set the recording one to pal.

If you have a video input on your PC you can transfer it onto there and watch it from there, or you can output it from there onto TV or tape...

(or take it to an AV place and they'll do it for you. $$ though.)nn[ Edited on 24-9-05 by EgeWorks ]

The Tv thing wont work because the signal would have to be converted at some point so the output from the Tv had changed. There's a guy on ebay who'll put it on dvd for you pretty cheap. Otherwise check out trading post etc, shouldn't be too hard to find but it's a prick, I know.

Good luck

Let me know how you go with this, I have the same problem, got great VW footage on an american spec NTSC mini dv camera.

I did speak to a shop on Victoria Rd Gladesville ( Storm Video) who can simply convert this to pal, didnt ask how much.

Dont go dvd he said if it still needs editing. I need a way of getting this footage onto my laptop.

Plug your mini camera to laptop via firewire and use a suitable capture program. MyDVD will capture NTSC or Pal which you can edit easily and then dump to DVD. MyDVD is packaged with many computers and doesn't do a bad job. More expensive is Pinnicle Studio and others if you need the power. Not sure on Windows Moviemaker but I believe it's ok. Nero Vision express also good.

If you get a USB capture converter such as Belkin from Dick Smith etc, your normal VHS recorder can plug into it for sound and video and the above programs will capture and enable editing/DVD creation.
