Hey all,
i have stumbled across a 1967 (early) beetle thats had a convertable conversion carried out on it. Its a very clean job, but the vehicle has never been registered as the original creator lost interest and ran out of funds.
As mentioned, everything is very clean, the car is fitted with a roll bar and for added strength the body has had additional 90degree angle welded along the top of both heater channels.
What other aspects will i have to look at in order to get it past an engineers report?
I dont want to buy into this vehicle if it will cost me huge dollars as i beleve it will not be worth it.
Any help greatfully appeciated!
1958 Beetle, 1966 VW Beetle, 1996 Holden Statesman!
Its an obsesion for engines and fuel.... 😏
Think it really depends on what the engineer is going to say
Seat belt mounts and the bracing i am "guessing" would be the main concern.
Does it have a top???
Sprayed??
Those 2 things alone plus the eng report would put it past what these things sell for completed.
Plus all the things that are just required for a modified car. windsreen washer, demister etc
Find the engineer you are going to take it to and have a quick word there
Futue te ipsum!!!
:ast time I had an engineer's report on a chopped off roof he required the modified car and an unmodified car of the same model.
To test body flex, he jacked each car up on one side placing the jack as close to the centre of the vehicle as he could. He then measured the distance from ground to rear corner of vehicle and compared this to the unmolested one.
He said he would have allowed a 5% variation.
A roll bar was only required for seat belt mounting and had to be at the correct angle.
And then, because it was now a modified and no longer a 1966 Crown it had to comply with all the new rules and needed: retractables, demister, external mirror etc.
The engineer charged me 120.00 for the report.
Poor man's porsche my arse: smart man's porsche.
