Im looking for some pix of these things for a "secret" project.
I seem to recall reading about them somewhere quite a while back.
Can anyone help?

i think the 1976 australian bug had fuelinjection to

The mexican FI has separate runners going from a centre mounted plenum a much better design than the german FI. There a photos on the FI page at shoptalkforums.com.

76's were carbed.
I dont believe any Aussie bugs were fuel injected.
Fairly common in the states.
Anyway... is this what you are after??

Mmmm nah not that bit, after a bit of scratching around, i found these things at CB perf..
These are the parts I am interested in.

The manifold "ends" with the injector bosses.
Im sure I have seen a post on this stuff in the past.

Firstly, thanks for the replies gents.
I did some more dredging and came up with these pix.

Its the end castings that carry the injectors that I am looking for.
Anything like this around?

Have you looked at type 3 FI manifolds? I am working on a secret project of my own modifying a set. The left side clears the fan housing but the right side will need some tweaking. Another option I tried was water cooled transporter manifolds but decided against it because the runner diameter was too big and I am building the setup for max tourque.
Nik
Not familiar with them but i do have some T3 twin carb stubs that could be machined easily to accept injector bosses where the air outlets are now.( I think...I havent looked at them for a long while now!)
Im actually using them in my current mule setup with a simple single tube manifold runner.
Im not interested in runner volume in this arrangement.
However, Im trying to keep fabrication down to an absolute minimum.
There is a very valid reason for this that is NOT necessarily related to pure money!
Would you have any pix of the T3 and/or transporter ends?

I will get some photos in the next few days. I am going to start on the intake soon. I have ECU, pump and everything else ready to go.

Tass,
These photos are off the forum.... someone had a setup for sale with a Haltech computer for $1300 or thereabouts about a year or maybe two ago.
I have higher res versions if you want me to email them to you.
Hey Tass,
Pleased to see my pics have been useful. If you need any more photos of the Mexi FI stuff let me know.
The photos Doug has just posted are the exact items. I bought the lot off primate (?) about a year ago... unfortunately I havn't got much further with it, but once I've moved house its next on the to do list.
From posts on shoptalkforums I believe the mexi end castings are getting hard to come by, however you could try talking to a fellow that goes by uberbug on superbeetlesonly.com forums, he may have some contacts.
Cheers
Jeremy

......random gibberish for today.......
I too am looking at cheap efi options, not necessarly for out right performance.
I've seen the cb performance end castings, and with their low profile center manifold a simple system could be put together easily. It would just require the manufacture of a plenum chamber to bolt onto the center manifold. Add a throttle body from your local jap wrecker and your away. I'm looking at using megasquirt efi.
An aussie company CAPA (capa.com.au) supplies all sorts of efi hardware, including weld on bosses for injectors, so if you have a spare pair of end castings and a mate with a tig, you could do it very cheaply. They will also make fuel rails too.

Thanks for all your effort and input men! much appreciated.
Ive found out just about all i need to know now.
One thing i do know is that the Mex. bits and peices are a bit hard to come by and the CB Perf stuff is pricey!.
Id still like to look at the T/3 and the Transporter watercooled items so if you can post some pix sometime that would be very cool Nik thanks.
If I end up going ahead with this project ill put up a post on it.
Thanks again dudes.

I've got a set of T/3 injection gear (manifolds, plenum and TB) at home - if Nik cant get some photos then post again and I'll drag them out of the shed and take some pix for you.
Thanks Doug that would be cool. Im mainly interested in the ends which carry the injectors.

I used to run type 3 injection bases on my turbo beetle, if you are putting the motor in a beetle the injectors will hit on the sides of the engine bay and will require some modification.
Also standard type 3 injectors are capable of producing quite a lot of power.
Rob
So what year T3's came with injection?

run the holden set up get the lot for $50.00 or free
Looking for that special lady : PM me for coffee & cake
Yeah, but bolting the manifolds on is a bitch, doesn't quite fit 🙂
your right, an efi camira can provide injectors, fuel pump and throttle body and some harness. If you can get a wagon, there is a gravity fed surge tank included as well!
Probably expect to pay $200 for a late model 2 litre.
I woulldn't touch ac delco (GM) computers with a barge pole but! Although it is reprogramable with Kalmaker software (~$800).
Megasquirt all the way!

Ive got just about everything I need really bar the manifold stubs.
FWIW, Im using the entire EFI setup out of my Pulsar Turbo ET. Its a complete standalone system ready to go.
That car now has EMS programmeable stuff with a T25g turbo, FMIC blah blah in that now and the entire OE system is sitting in a box in the shed. I was actually going to chuck it out.......
The engine is a TP 1600 and is fitted with a non-water cooled Garrett To2 off the ET and is going into my Formula Vee as a club day/hillclimb plaything.
The only thing I may change is the actual injectors. It all depends on what manifold stubs I can find/make.
I deally, id like to modify some stubs to accept the stock ET injectors as theyare a hose tail injectorand dont need fuel rails to retain them. This makes the job a lot easier again.
Pretty much the only thing i have to fabricate is the inlet log (no brainer) and the exhaust manifold.
This is an easy task as the turbo is actually mounted directly to a blokes strength bracket welded to the chassis rear crossmember rather than actually hanging off the zorst tubes, and I only have to run a thin-walled tubing setup from the header collector up to tihe turbo.. I am using an old set of F-Vee extractors i have laying around and a handful of old exhaust flanges i have collected to make the joints gas tight and the whole thing easy to get off the car.
I have a set of straight-cut gears (3rd & 4th) out of a sand rail but the top gear is a very low 1.2 or thereabouts so Ill have to find a 3.8 L-bug diff for it to speed it up a bit.
I reckon it should go allright. Im aiming for about 100 Hp (7 to 8psi) and this pushing 480 kilos with me sitting in it should be quite a bit of a laugh!
So thats the project. I have all the bits and the only thing stopping me is the manifold stubs.
More I think about it, the T3 EFI stubs would be the go as clearance is not an issue in my chassis.
Anybody got some they might sell?

yer, Ive been sniffing around that forum for a bit lately.
There is a dude selling some T1 stuff as we speak. I have posted to see about them.
After thinking about things, I think the T3 stuff "may" suit me better tho. These are the stubs i have now that i was going to use on the drawthru carb setup I was originally going with.
I have already fabricated the crossover log so thats another thing I dont have to do again! Yay!

Ive been reading and accumulating bits to FI a beetle. I reckon the type3 inlets welded with injector bosses to fit generic injectors with tails are the way, they can be ported up quite well. IF and thats a big if, you got some mexi FI inlets i reckon they would flow more air for a big motor. The volume also works well and would need to be sorted if using T3 inlets. This is less of a concern for you as you have a great big compressor helping!
cheers

You'd laugh if you found out how I cam across them...... the 1835 in my car is actually built on an AS41 universal replacement case out of a 69 type 3 (injected) fastback, which was sitting in a paddock near Gascoyne junction (middle of northern w.a nowhere) !!!! I kept all the FI gear off it just in case.... I cant imagine they would be real hard to find ?
Errrm you may think differently iffen you live in southern tassie dude!
This place is a toilet for that kind of clobber.:P
