You can mount a speaker in the hole in the dash, this is what it was originally used for.

You can also mount speakers in the front doors, if you don't mind cutting your door cards. There are holes in the inner door skin. Just line them up with the door cards and cut a hole. I think from memory that 4" are about the biggest you can fit in this spot.

There are also kick panels available which fit in the front foot wells which allow the mounting of speakers.

I was curious about this... when i was pulling out the ventilation system i noticed i had a speaker up there under the dash... what size are they?
Just wanted to know so i can find a new one that can handle a bit more power.
I tried hooking up the current one to my clarion 50Wx4 head unit but it went all crackly..

yeah where can you buy a speaker small enough to fit in that dash part? i just took a closer look and im probably just missing some important key factor but i thought they didn't make speakers that small?? :duh maybe i will just have to go for the speakers in the door option (hehe if i can work out what an inner door skin is first!)

i bought 6 inch splits.

Put tweeters in the air vents (just pop out the little bits that direct the air and push in the tweeters) and put the main speaker in the rear corner of the door. This is all good if you dont mind the fresh air being blown onto your knees!! Makes a good sound too.

The original speakers were probably oval shaped - approx 6' long and 3-4' high, not to mention running on about 8watts of power. The surrounds would also be old and deteriorated by now - the bits that actually transmit the sound.

You could get a smaller speaker - to fit in there - just work out the spacing of the original screws and find something to match. However it wouldn't work all that well with a stereo system - and a subwoofer would be too big.

Cute idea though. Maybe a couple of small high end speakers pointing out at the driver and front passenger would be the go?
