is there any difference between a 55 beetle pan and a 56 beetle pan?are the seat runners the same or different?

im the man to answer this.
we swapped my 56/57 pan for a 55 pan last year for my oval, everything was the same on the new 55 pan except for the heater knob was in a different spot on the tunnel so ur carpet hole will be out of whack, oh, and the battery area was smaller on the 55 pan, i found the battery stuck out under the bar that holds the seat, whereeas before there was plenty of room under there.
seats went on no problems although the runners looked different i think.

The pre August 55 pans are different to the post august 55 and 56 pans in that battery area, seat runners, handbrake and heater controls.
They will swap but you will need to use the early seats as the runners are slightly narrower

how do i know if its pre august 55?

Check the plate at the front of the body or run the numbers on one of the websites

If its a pre aug 55 pan then the heater control knob will be behind the handbrake lever instead of infront of it
