Hi all,

I know there are many of you out there who may be able to help me identify the model of this beetle.

I've been told it's a 71 model but would really like to know details such as whether its a superbug, ball-joint or macpherson, and IRS or swing-axle.

Unfort. I only have these photos and as it's part of a larger auction can't get down to have a closer look at it just yet.

Thanking you,

Tim

Looks like a 71-72 super to me. Macpherson strut and IRS. Looks to have some moderate damage though, the front apron/guards are kind of mishaped...

Are those little vents behind the rear windows only on Superbugs? Something inside me says they are but i've learnt not to trust that little voice.

That's right. The 68-69 have the same look as the 1302 super bugs (S bug). Most obvious differences between the models are the strut front end with the different front hood so they spare can lay flat and the vents behind the rear side windows. From memory I think the steering wheel is different as well.

This is a 1302S Super.... circa 1971...
with front discs- struts on the front - IRS rear end and twin port 1600 engine...

1971 standard beetles look the same from the rear...
twin vents on the engine lid etc...
but this is a SUPER Beetle going by the front bonnet....

Well I must say thank you to all!

Only thing I could use is probably the engine by the sound of it.

If it's going real cheap I'll pick it up and you may see it (or the most part of it) on the forum cheap too as I don't have much room to store cars and the 2 beetles I currently have are using alomost all the space available.

Not only Superbugs. Each year from '70 there was the 1300 TP model that also had these vents, with a dum brake beam front end.
Cheers, Ian.

some do some dont, us models did i think, and we didnt, i have the lenses for the reverse light, but not the bulb holder bit, nor have i ever come across the right bit so i can have reverse lights, would love em tho, im a bit sick of using the force to reverse at night.
