Hi all.. i'm trying to identify these shock absorbers i pulled off the back of the type 3 i got yesterday..
They have stamped on them "WARNING, Maximum Pressure 150 PSI after Installation" then the code "39507" followed by "made in usa"
They have a little screw attachment, and one of the shock absorbers still had this attached to some kind of line/hose running through the body under the back seat i think.. couldn't really see where it went.
One of them, the one that didn't have the hose attached, is quite hard to pull out/push in but the one that had the hose attached moves quite freely, which i thought was odd.
Anywho, can anyone tell me what they are and are they good? and how do i fit them to my type 3 and make them work? (if they're good)
Oh, and while i was pulling these off i noticed the fastback has front and rear sway bars! :bounce
little screw on bit
They are pump up air shocks. The bellows usually rot in them if they are old.If you can get an air line onto them try pumping them up.If air pisses out of them they are stuffed. Most 4WD places will have the lines and attachments to fit to them to enable them to be used again.Supercheap may even sell them. I used to have a set on my Manx and they were fine. Some people tend to disagree though......:vader

they loook like old air shocks..gabriel hi jackers or something like that...they had an air line attached to each shock and you could pump them up to assist maintain ride height when carrying a heavy load...or to lift the back end a bit ..they look a bit passed their use by date to me..?
Yeah maybe you're right... shame.. they looked kinda cool, and being able to pump them up might be cool 🙂
They seem pretty solid though... so maybe they just LOOK old...

Looks like the old Gabriel Air shocks I had in my cortina. worked great until i towed a trailer full of dirt. Blew them both up in one go.
