Simple...sign a receipt of sale...take plates off and hand them into qld (u can post these as I recall) and they (new owners) take car and rego in vic.

They should transport car.

If u knwo them and trust them (alot) i guess u could let them drive car down to vic, and send u back the plates. But i suggest when u make receipt up for sale, u also get them to sign a form(witnesses) saying they take ownership, and responibilty of car from xxx date)

Saves any hassell later if they speed along the way...accidents arent too bad(they would normally stop and show licences) but those speeding cameras...and arguing over whose responsible....well...my gf copped a fine for her brother, because he refused to accept teh responsibility.

Now she no long allows anyone to borrow the car.

But I think thats pretty much it.

I had to do it in reverse. Guy in QLD sold me a car regoed in VIC, and I was in Qld.

Once you sign the transfer of ownership papers it is the buyers responsibility - by rights you can not sell a car and then de-register it in your name. Easier for all if it remans registered and depends if it is driven or transported as BEB said.

If the transfer paperwork is signed and dated then they will be liable for any fines, etc incurred after they take the car. We just sold our car interstate and the new owner keeps the plates and hand them in when they transfer the rego to their home state. Ours was ACT to NSW

In Vic you don't even have to hand the plates in any more. Notify vicroads you are cancelling / suspending the reg and you are safe from camera fines. Even if you don't do that a stat dec of who had the car at the time of the infrigement will pass the fine on to that person.
