As the title says really, me and the missus are looking for a splitty to do some travelling around in... we've seen a couple on the forums but they're typically on the wrong side of the country - we'll be in WA

Basically we're after a late (64 on) kombi splitty, not panel van, in good roadworthy condition, pref already with a camping interior but willing to do some DIY if necessary. It seems like they're pretty difficult to find so we may need some help from folk on here 😉

2nd resort is a Bay, but I have a romantic notion of doing a lap of Aus in a split... aaaahh

Budget? What you got?

Hope you can help us, cheers

Sam

G'day Sam,
Sorry I can't help you in your quest but just wanted to let you know of a Splitty (deralict) sitting in the bush behind the big Boab tree at a roadside stop between Derby turnoff and Fitzroy crossing if you are coming that way, been there a long time.
Cheers, Ian.

Sounds like it might need more than a light oiling to get it going! 😀

... maybe i'll take some photos of it on my way past 😉

Volkwest are a joke! No wonder they are closing down. I rang them up this week for a part and they were, more or less said that they were to lazy to look for it. Over priced junk!

I'd be very surprised to find volkswest overpriced... I've always found them significantly cheaper than the other two 'real' vw shops in PErth.

Try giving Vee Dub Center in Osborn Park a call (remember, take cash, they havent quite caught up with that new fangled EFTPOS thingo) and see what their prices are like in comparison.

Also, I'm surprised that Volkswest would have that sort of attitude. Mayeb things really have been getting to them.... (I've been a customer on and off for about 10 years)..... guess everyone can have a bad day.

Was it a new part or 2nd hand you were after ? Did you find it in the end ?

The part I was looking for was a rust free front apron for a type 3 1970. I rang back the next day as instructed but he said he never looked for it.

Fair enough - I know they used to have quite a large wrecking yard behind their workshop, cant remember if there were any late Type 3's in it.

They used to have 3 or 4 guys there, and I think its now down to just Bill and Chris, so I could understand if they got a bit overworked. They never really were good at rapid service.....

I was hoping for, like, ALL of the parts that make up a van! 🙄

Do Volkswest have an e-mail address?

Anymore for anymore?

Yeah, seen it... looks in great condition (poss. too good for bouncing around the outback for 6 months?)... plus a bit too pricey for our needs, and not quite sure about the colour and mods, eek!

fussy bugger aren't I!

My bro has a late split kombi in need of some lurvin....Its not rego'd and it needs a total going over, but it is all there and not to shabby...(I have seen much worse on the road!). Not sure on the price, but I can find out for you if you email me...or him direct....(choppaxs@hotmail.com).

Toecutter...Email me re: your TIII apron...Pretty sure I have one...

Its a shame about VolksWest leaving us....But things are not good there and the boys have had enough....I have been a customer of theirs for ova 20 years, and they have always been good to me...the only catch is, they dont know what they have!...You have to go there and get it yourself!...As for the prices...Definately NOT over priced...
FUCH your early!
