if it doesn't make it go faster, you don't need it.

Nah, to drop it 100mm you would cut say one or two coils off the springs. IF you can cut the springs that is (it depends on how they sit in the struts, I`m not sure, never worked on a super but I know you can on some cars).
It`s all to do with spring rates etc. For example, cutting one 100mm in length off the springs would probably drop the car something crazy like 250mm!!
You cannot just leave the strut inserts out though as they attach the struts to the strut mounts in the body!!!
My mate has got a full Kerscher (not sure how to spell that) set up on his `79 Kab, he knows his shit so I`ll see if he can give some pointers.

It`s a sweet car with Porsche Big Red disc brakes all round.
He`s building a 2.4L Type 4 motor for it at the moment. He`s got a degree in automotive engineering and really knows his shit, the stock 1600FI motor that is in there is hooked up to his laptop!

see what generic aftermarket springs you can get with the same psi rating, just shorter.
then they'll have flat ends on them and won't jump out of the struts.

Hey paul, I did that with our super back about 10 years ago so the memory is a bit fuzzy, too many sleepless nights since then. Anyway I think I cut 2 coils off first & I thought it was pretty low. Went out to my first club meeting for the "Lowdown Buggers" (remember them??) and the general reaction was not bad, be good if it was lowered.
So I figured stuff it, pulled the struts out again & cut ANOTHER 2 coils off...:thumb Nice & low, not ground scraping but low enough. Who needs suspension travel?? The only pics I've got aren't digital, and I dont have a scanner hooked up so I can't show you much.

Bit dodgy I guess but it worked & I didn't have any problems, dunno if I'd recommend it with legality etc. Don't even need a spring compressor when you've cut 4 coils off!!

Cheers

Adam,

Now you tell me you are having drags! arrrgghh.

I am glad, but it's too late to organise time off to get there.

What are you racing this time?
