My computer recently got a worm which disabled the Norton AV...!!!😬
Run All your virus programs and checks, clean out your cookies and try it again...
Also they don't like running too far out of date, so if your version has expired and they have been pressuring you to renew it, that might have something to do with it....
I hate to admit it, but man, I think you're right....

if you can, you could try and download Ad-Aware and run this. You probably have something hidden in your registrysettings. The Ad-aware will clean this out.

Hey WABaja,

I think I got the same thing too. Was it given to you over msn?? Mine was :cry
It disabled all my anti-virus software and any anti-virus websites I tried to visit as well as put a whole heap of crap into my hosts file. Good thing my machine was due for a good old wipe.
Have you managed to get rid of yours yet??

Seagull,(I am no expert)

try going to http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
and run a scan using their program.
That should find if you have something in your computer that shouldn't be there.

Failing that.... not sure, try asking Andrew what he thinks after you have tried all the tricks.
'Ah, whatever................'

howdy neil,

if your norrton is outta date and you dont want to pay $$ then ditch it.

download and run adaware as mentioned above and also download and run spybot. you might need to go throught one clean, reboot, clean cycle but it shoud see you right.

to replace norton try antivirguard from www.free-av.com its been good for me. and there are other good free anti viruses ect.

also if you keep getting home page or search redirects you could try using firefox as your browser. the firewall that comes standard on windoze nowadays is ok too.

then again, nothing beats keeping in control of you PC so that an emengency reformat aint a big hassle.

PS. whens the offroad shortened, lightened trike being released. i can see it now, minimal fibreglass, 32s or bigger on the back, longer and wider diagonal arms, seagull special linkage on the front wheel giving 12" travel and some serious bracing to headstem.

later duude.

get AVG antivirus free version happening.
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1
I've been using it for years with no worries.
you'll probably need to go into your hosts file and delete all the stuff the virus has put into it too.

It may have been, but it also might have come through hidden as a quote on a new tow truck... (long story)
I got a brand new version of Norton AV, removed the old one, (Kept the computer OFFLINE for the entire time), removed the old, installed the new, then run a total clean out of the system including reformat and compression and all clean up and clear out programs..
I also run Ad-Aware, and one other, which I won't name but it works well...
(can't give out all my protection secrets)...
Since installing the new Norton and the new Norton Firewall, msn has been disabled via the firewall and it no longer works, which is ok by me...
Evidence Eliminator has a reasonable downloadable demo version which works ok for clearing out crap too...
I hate to admit it, but man, I think you're right....
