Hi guys and gals,
I have been trying to fine tune my 1600TP in my 74 Kombi. The Bently manual would be helpful if I knew what year my engine should be timed to as there are 7 variations listed. There is only one timing mark and I do not have any type of scaling for accurately setting any variance off TDC.
My engine is pictured below. It is a Mexican replacement engine and I am unsure of its age as it was second hand when fitted. I have recently fitted a 009 dizzy and put electronic ignition on too. I have bought home from work a fancy tacho so I will set the idle to whatever is required - again this varies in the Bently manual between years.
Does anyone know what it should set it to and how do I set the 5deg or whatever is required.
I am eagerly waiting with timing light in hand.
Thanks, Karl.

...if you are using a 009 dissy, the engine should be timed at 30 deg max advance. I used a timing light that has the ability to 'dial back' the advance (set the timing light to 'dial-back' 30 degrees advance, start the engine and increase the revs until the advance stops increasing, the timing mark should then be lined up with the zero mark).

Hope this helps...

Just a note: have a look in the tech section regarding 009's vs other types of dissys - you might find it interesting reading!

If you only have a single timing mark my guess is it is a 7.5° mark.

Will try and find my notes on how to measure out 10° and 30° marks
