As most of you know I have been doing up Daphine since march and had already bought some race seats to put in her. But since today when we put the originals back in to move the bug out of the shed I realized how cute the bucket seats look.

So...which do I choose? The bucket seats are in pretty good condition. But the race seats are really comfy, but there might be a prob with space. So im stuck on which way to go. What do you guys think?

are the originals hiback or lowback? coz if they're lowbacks, i'm kinda a sucker for em. I personally reckon the factory seats are very comfy too. afterall you're not gonna race it are you?

The vw is a 1968 and I think they are lowbacks. I used to like the look of raceseats in bugs, but now they look so big and clunky and I don't think it'd suit the car even though its done up.

I would eventually have them reapolstered white with pink trim!

This is are a pic of the seats in the car the first day I bought her home...

And these are the race seats...

yep big seats certainly fill up the cockpit! i have em and i think if i lived in the city i would remove them so i could have the better view provided by the lowbacks, especially when checking the left hand lane over the shoulder, probably less chance of temptation theft or break ins too!

they are safer tho in the event of a crash.

older model toyota torago seats are a nice compromise, i think similar to integras

by the way you're beetle is looking schweeeett!

I am about to put a set of fixed back race seats into my 69 beetle had them sitting in there they definately fill up the cabin. but give it the ultimate boy racer look. also very comfy also a bit easier to run harnesses. They are still getting fitted at the moment should be good. your originals look to be in pretty good nick though.

yeah i like the lowbacks cos you can rest your arm over the passenger 🙂 And they give better visibility. Although you will probably get whiplash if you get rearended (no head support). Also I find I generally slip side to side around corners as they have no sideways support. They also give me back pain because I sit to align with the steering wheel (which is off-center about 2" to the seat) and because there is no side support, I end up sitting off centre too - it makes me sit at a camber.

Original low back seats covered in hot pink leather for sure!

I currently have those racing seats in my oval and they will be soon be going to make way for some original seats that I am having covered in cream leather .......

i put honda vti seats in they do take up room but the comfort outweighs this i also put them on a double slide so the seats can go right back against the back seat and forward to the firewall

I love my lowback seats! 👍 Visibility is a +, and they lighten the whole interior giving the feeling of 'space', and they're shweet for cruising.

Your original seats look very clean, I'd keep 'em!
Besides, if you put the racing seats in the front, would the red rear seat stay? Could look odd.... :P

I always liked these fixed back ones, quite period and with a bit of lateral support. Not to mention they look the goods too.

(I love this early bay, any excuse to post a pic of it)

I run cobra suzuka race seats.High back, with high sides, and fixed back.

1. they are a complete B*&(yh to get in and out of in the city, as you have to lift yourself up and out eveytime.

2. your seats are not pure race seats ( i have run similar) and they are quiet nice, but unless your over 5'10 you will have problems seeing out the back.

3. To fit in my cobra's it tool alot of fiddling around to get them to both fit.
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!
