I'm not ready to do it but i just wanted to know if it has been done.

If so, how hard is it.

And how did you set up the cooling system.

I'm not ready to do it right now. the 1835cc is still going strong. Just wondered if it was possible if i ever came into a bit of extra money.

My boys looked at it for their fastback. If you are happy to raise the floor level a bit it will be pretty easy.

Maybe you are not reading properly now.

I think he is talking about a squareback.

He is also asking for those who have done it, not those who looked at it.

And he also asked about the cooling sytem which you somehow didn't mention at all.

He doesn't ask if you've done it but has it been done.
Similar conversions have been done.
All he is really asking is if it is hard.

The boys have done all the leg work and the floor will still have to be raised in a squareback as the engine bay would need cutting or raising in the fastback.
There are a few ways to handle the cooling. Radiator up front is of course the best. A grille and radiator is simple in a type three. The pipes will be best up through the heater channels but a lot more work than running underneath which after all is cheap and nasty.
The fuel line and return line are pretty easy through or beside or even under the tunnel.
When and if you go ahead I'm sure they'll join and share their technical drawings and bracket designs.
The engine supports will require substantial reinforcing as the rear end of the late type three like you have is not the best.
A fastback or notchback is probably a better candidate as the enclosed area behind the seat is a lot more useful than boxing up the parcel area in a squareback.

Where's Glenn? He's just done one into a Fastback I believe? Maybe he can fill you in on how he put it in and what space issues he came across.

Yeah, I co-ordinated/specced the install into my mate's (GTMac) Fastback. Don't bother with a Square unless you want to build a raised, sealed, insulated box to cover the engine. Notches and Fastys are great because the 'luggage area' is easily converted to an 'engine bay' as it is NOT shared with the passenger compartment

Radiator up front in the spare wheel well...TMac found a cheapo Hyundai unit with twin thermos and cut the front under the bumper to let in air.

Thanks heaps guys.

I think I like the space in the back of my car a little too much to raise the floor so EJ20 powered it is not to be.

No worries. I'lll just have to keep on upgrading VW powerplants.

Thanks for all your help
