anyone know about the old ferris box car radios?
i have one identical to this, 12v/240v, case is hand welded brass/copper? valves inside, just wondering if anyone knows a bit about these or how i can put a date on one. there is 555 hand-written inside the case, 53 engraved on the magnavox speaker and 90 3555 printed on the outer case.

the image there is taken from a '49 advert but i have no idea how long they were made for. ah well, if no-one knows anything then i will gut it and put a modern soundsystem inside 👍

I have seen a few of those in FJ Holdens. There is a couple of places that repair old valve auto radios in Melborne, and a place in Sydney.

a mate had one in a 48-215 or fx holden for the unwashed
also seen them in a buick and a chev of a similar vintage quite cool though dont destroy it keep it original

i think i can replace the internals without putting any holes in anytthing or damaging anything, maybe just put the old internals aside for one day if it gets converted back, they arent workign properly anyway.
