Push on it with a screw driver...

If it goes through then you need to cut n replace with new metal
I read it on FACEBOOK so it must be true

One of those knotted wire brushes that mounts to a 4 inch angle grinder is the thing to hit 'surface' rust with.....

It makes bright clean honest metal or holes.... You do need to know. If holes follow above advice.....

you can buy a small Acrylic disc that fits a grinder, ( better on a sander / polisher ) and it will take the rust back to bare metal. Spray some primer, or filler primer, sand and touch up with some paint. you can get Autobarn to mix up some paint , if you know the code, in a spray can , and touch up. cheers, fish.😎😎😎

If you do use a wire brush or disc grinder to remove surface rust.... make sure you apply a rust converter before you apply etch primer and primer....

rust or oxide hides in every small hole.

If you dont convert you will find that the corrosion will only bubble up again.
