What's with that Oasis, do you play like Jimmy Haslip (Yellowjackets) ie LH and upside sidedown, or were you trying to look like Jimmy hendrix while playing right handed?
😀
BTW, Oasis you play a few things yourself don't you?
Chris,
I play gt, bass, double bass, drums and sing a bit. Occasionally I sit down behind a piano too. But I wouldn't describe what I do to it as playing...it'd be an insult to Herbie Hancock and Diana Krall.
Oh, I almost for got, I also play the ukelele...:P

If you can't laugh at yourself you can't laugh at anyone else! Because life is to short not to LAUGH
i played drums for six years, stopped because my talent outgrew my wallet and i couldnt afford a new kit to progress.
i'm now singing in a metal band, i try to play drums where i can. i amm also a keen hand percussionist
I have a Gibson Les Paul goldtop circa 1970.Its worth a couple of really nice veedubs! And it doesn't seem to matter what the interest you are limited by what you can afford.I' love a vintage amp but $$$ arn't there.
There is a local dude who plays r/h bass upside down.Thats it! just upside down!regular r/h tuning. He is really good too!
I have six guitars! Rock on!

Let's not even talk about how much you pay for a proffesional classical instrument, like say a cello. $$$$$ :o
I had a teacher who paid in excess of $25k for his double bass in the mid 80s, and that was before he had it restored into playable condition again. People said he paid too much. Now it's worth over $100k. :duh
think cello is expensive? try a harp
Yeah, string instruments are expensive.
I play double bass and mine cost me roughly $8 grand and its mid-range......

yeah, i'm a lefty. Got an $800 electric-acoustic and a stat-lookalike (was my first, but worth crap all) too.
Its hard looking for lefty instruments, millions more right then left. But yeah, u can flip the strings on a RH guitar, but i find its usually not that comfortable when it comes to the nobs and pick guard.
Maybe if i was desperate and didn't wanna spend another 2k for a company to custom make a LH, i would go RH. Was lucky finding this one, went all around Brissy, and found only one. Haggled it pretty well too.
Great to see u all play or have played something. Music is good. Makes time go faster too sometimes. Just so BLOODY EXPENSIVE!! Lol.
Have always wanted to start a band with a few people, neva found anyone around that i knew who had the passion and loyalty to a band. Maybe while i'm at uni, will find some people. Advertise myself on a message board around the music shops maybe. Be great if they were a Vdubber though. even a band of just 2 people is good enough for me, be noice having a girl in it too. 👍👍

seriously, i would luv to perform in a concert. Be a beautiful life goal to succeed on stage, even for one night with a big loud cheering crowd screaming and clapping as i walk off. I luv the idea of being on stage rather than in the crowd.
hehe, by the way, don't u guys just luv the way that lead singer dude from Midnight oil dances in his music clips, thats funny stuff. Just had a flashback in memory. Good bloke though. he is politician now ay?

one of the things everyone should/must do before they die: attend a heavy metal concert.
regarding concerts: i prefer the outrageous antics of slipknot myself... awesome live on stage. love or hat their music, they are performers to the end. go to a concert of theirs, and if ou hate the music, just tune out, and run with the adrenaline fuelled energy of the tens of thousands of others aound you.
i have never seen another genre of msic cause such hysteria in the audience as metal. it is truly awe inspiring

I play for a living and only play because I enjoy it. Compromising the music for money takes the enjoyment out of it though, so you have to choose what you do carefully and be happy to not make a lot of money all the time.

Personally, I dig Bosendorffers (if I spelt it right?). Whole extra octave of bottom end.
I too used to be a proffesional muso before I went to Bible College. Spent 4 years at the Conservatorium. Loved playing the bands I was in and the school for disabled kids where I taught. I also ran music where I went to church. I really only play at church these days although I did a few musical gigs and played Bass for Handel's Messiah at the end of last year. I'm also trying to finish an album of my own songs that I started recording with a friend at the beginning of last year. Speaking of which, is anyone on here a kick butt Rock'a'billy guitarist? Coz I need someone to play a solo at high speed on one of the tracks and even my brother, who's quite a guitarist seems to be stumped by it.
Dodge,
where do you play double bass?
Bösendorfer is my favourite too. I played one on my 1st CD. Small world Pete. I did the same thing as you, but left bible college so I could keep playing full time. Worked as a music director in a church for 10 years too... Also play double bass and sold mine recently..
"Tell him 'We've already got one'"
Certainly seems we have more than a bit in common. Why did you sell your bass?
I'm overseeing music again now in my new Assistant Minister's position. I start Sunday week. Are you still doing much church stuff?
The album I am trying to finish is a collection of stuff that's been written over the last 10 years or so. It's got some rock and metal, a funk track as well as one Rock'a'billy song, but it's mostly sort of mainstream rock. The disturbing thing is that I find I heading more folky/country the older I get. My dream instrument is pedal steel I think now. Kind of weird, I spent most of time professionally playing classical and Jazz, but here I am sounding like I came out of nashville half the time. :o
What sort of stuff do you write? Jazz, rock, pop, dance?

gotta go to dinner now, bangers on buns, mmm.
by the way, $280k is a S!#T load of cash for an instrument. Must be dam good 🙂
another by the way, anyone got any demo tracks of their stuff? improvisation, short compositions or wateva, or even full songs?

Hi Pete, mainly jazz, but plenty of everything else including doing films etc... Best to look at my web page as i don't want to steal Chris's thread... I haven't played in church for years now except for a couple of tours. Played wth Andrae Crouch and MD for Ron Kenoly in the gospel music scene. I'm on a LOT of country cds, and I never thought I'd ever be doing that..
"Tell him 'We've already got one'"
guitar for me,
and your epiphone looks beautiful.
Just make sure its a valve amp, you will never be sorry.
thanx for the advice mate 👍 all appreciated. have done a lil' shopping for em once before. That was a yr ago, i had a choice of spending $1300 on a guitar and amp, or go for one good one of one or the other.
by the way oasis, i don't mind. Anyone here who plays music and contribute anything here. I'm not the one to go nuts about it Lol
