I bought myself a T3 bus on Thursday. After sorting a few minor details, I take it for a run Sunday.
3 bay kombis, 2 beetles, a beach buggy & even another t3 I passed. Waved to all of them, not a single response.
It appears all the long lost relatives I found while driving my bay or beetle don't appreciate my latest aquisition. :repuke
Well my friends are gone & my hair is grey, I ache in the places where I used to play.
how rude are some people, dont they know about new age hippies? Cant believe the other T3 driver didnt wave to you either!

It seems that many are waiving waving, er, not waving back! (see "Spotters Forum - Daily Dubs"). We have found at least half of beetle owners (& new beetles sometimes) wave - or otherwise acknowledge - if they can safely. If a Kombi driver ever waves to Bertie (it's yet to happen) he promises to wave/signal back. Bertie gets lots of waves from kids in other cars (any make) too!
You do get used to it...
Doesn't stop me waving though.. 😉

Actually I didn't get a wave from another kombi driver in Brisbane yesterday. I was really surprised because I thought that all koombi drivers wave. haha!
Oh well.....

with so many beaut vw's still on the road, my only guess is that they aren't all driven by 'vw people'..
I've been stung (a blank stare after waving at a type 3 identical to mine)
So I just look for eye contact (if it's safe to do so)..if I get that, A wave will surely follow!
There's an unbeleivable amount cruising around the inner west of Sydney.
Saturday morning, spotted three Buses (one for sale!) and two Beetles,
all within a block and in the same two minutes!
bog'n'grumble
have found the same in my t3, but its just one of those things,i will wave even if i dont get one back😁

its not your 'clissic die hard air cooled' any more.
i was always in the opinion that the 'wave' was an acknowledgment of mutual perserverance and understanding of an air cooled classic, and not teh VW badge in itself.
think about it... being passed by some one in a T3 or new beetle or any golf on a hot day with the windows wound up and air blowing, rather than cruising, sweating with both windows down watching your temp guage rise (or checking your mirrors for smoke every five minutes)...
isnt really the same thing!
the wave is an acknowledgement of your devotion to teh original... a 'yeah mate - and my number of fingers represents the number of rebuilds or replacement motors ive had!'
Simply Cruzin'...
cruising, sweating with both windows down watching your temp guage rise
heh heh..
overheating IS embarrassing...
I feel very rude when I'm backfiring..lucky it's only happened once!
Good points you make, twoguns.
You never can tell, though.
Had plenty of waves from buses,
But I live next door to an old guy who keeps a MINT white bus in his shed and takes it out on weekends, walked by him many times, never a peep!
I must look like a no-gooder.
bog'n'grumble
Funny thing with these motors, it aint exactly air or water cooled. But at least the engine is in the arse end where a VW engine belongs.
While I must admit it's nice to have comfortable seats, air & a demister that actually works, when you hit Mount White or Mooni Mooni, it's still just a kombi.
Well my friends are gone & my hair is grey, I ache in the places where I used to play.
The people who drive a vw because they love em always wave, the people who drive them cause they just found cheap transport or whatever probably wont wave. Plan A; wave at as many of these people until they love that vw, and then start waiving back.Plan B just wave at everyone I pass and try to encourage happy driving which will leed to the demise of road rage.
Click the Beetle
oops..
did i say 'bus' when i should have said 'kombi'?
Have i done something offensive?:P

You definitely need to see 'The Daily Dubs I See' thread in spotters forum!
We have been debating the 'lack of VW wavers' lately. It is sad that many don't wave back when we happily wave at them. My guess is they just don't know what it's all about, poor people with their boring lives they lead! If they only knew how good it makes us all feel when we get waves back, they'd be waving at everyone too! :P
And Hertz, I agree!! Wave at everyone no matter the make or model car, and we shall see the demise of road rage.😉
Imagine how nice it would be if instead of someone yelling at us because we're a bit effin slow up a hill, or a brake light is a bit dim, the people politely wave to us and smile and say "Excuse me, I just wanted to let you know you have an awesome car, and I don't mind if you're a bit slow up that hill. I'm happy to just sit behind you and admire your car, even if it leaves little oil splats on my $10000 paint job. And I don't mind either that the smoke from your exhaust makes those little lights fly about in my vision and my breathing increases in difficulty. I also don't mind that your brake light isn't working and I almost rammed the back of your car back there, because you waved at me and I hope you have as lovely a day as I'm having..."
Ok, I'll shut up now..... :P
That's a cool thread you got, Pretty_Blue.
I'd start one myself for my area...but I already got a full time job:P
btw..what about headlight flashing?
got flashed a few times..looks cool to me!
bog'n'grumble
Yeah, have had that happen a couple of times, and a few horn beeps too! :P
and once, a curteous fellow stopped traffic and waved me into the mainy from a sidestreet.
classy!
bog'n'grumble
If they don't aknowledge you on the first friendly wave, take your hands off the wheel, lean out the window and wave both arms madly with a huge exagerated grin on ya dial.
Even if they don't wave back, you're sure to create an impression, and they will even tell friends and family about the "wave".
Unless you're really skilled though, I don't advise doing this without a co-driver...
😂 I'd crack up if I had someone wave like that to me! :P
There's a cute little old lady I see a couple of times a week driving her White Beetle. She waves with both hands when she sees me drive by, but she's usually stopped at lights. 😉
I'll wave at you Spook when I overtake you pulling up those F3 hills. :kiss
It seems like no matter how many vw's I pass I always get snobbed in Ipswich!!!! :cry

Problem is, in my position, with VWMA signs on the car, I have to wave to anything with a VW badge.
The good news is 99% wave back, peace sign (or at least I think it is) or thumbs up.
The bad news is these days, there's fewer VW enthusiasts on the road on a daily basis.
I really like TwoGuns idea of the no. of fingers in the wave indicating the no. of rebuilds or engine replacements we've had. However there could be a real safety issue here.... by the time I get my shoes off and add all the toes in to the fingert count!!! Or if I just use the hand and its five digits repeatedly I'll have gone several hundred meters past before finishing the number of waves...
I have to apologise to the light-blue S/bug driver opposite Melb. Cemetary today (just before Royal Pde.). I don't know if you waved or not (was watching car in front), but I meant to as I saw you smiling 😊 at Bertie.

The guy who waved at me from his SWEET two-tone beetle plastered in 'classic veedub club' stickers (one morning at an intersection on Princes highway) must have been in the same boat as you!
But he had a big ole' grin and so did I when I waved back..
Although my wave was partially to protect my eyes from the sun reflecting off of that pristine paint-job:thumb
I guess my sun-visors and roofies are a bit of a giveaway!

your got a good point there i dont know about cities but
around coffs in traffic there seems to be as many vw's as any other make in the newish variety on the road.
sitting at lights & beside you is a jap car no its a new vw
dime a dozen nowadays & not distinctive as the old vw's
execpt the beetle.
The other week while driving my multi coloured bug from Maitland to Raymond Terrace I noticed a red bug comming the other way so I was getting ready to give the wave as I do to all vw's. As it got closer it had p plates on it with 4 young blokes in it and the 4 of them had arms out the windows waving at me. I just cracked up big time it was a great start to my day at work, it kept a smile on my face all day as I remembered the wave.:bounce:bounce

I always get waves back when i wave at other Kombi's... Vanagons though.. pfft.. half of them dont even know what they are driving, they just know it has a big slidy door and they can put tools in the back (no pun intended)... no offence to anyone who has one of these, im just bitter cos they never wave to me... hmph!
Occasionally i get the odd wave back if i wave at a beetle but after one extremely disturbed dubber gave me the finger after i waved at them i went into a wave depression and was only returning waves, not giving them... Luckily though i got better and now wave as much as always 👍
Always makes my day when Kombi's wave... I was having a really pooey day a while ago and i was tootling up Brunswick St contemplating how many new plastic cars i could clean up with my bullbar before it broke. (i figured at least 3) Anyways... the point is i was ready to commit KoMbiRaGE when a van came the other way with 3 people in it flashing their lights, beeping their horn, waving and laughing and yelling out to me "YAY... KOMBIIIIIEEEEEEEEE.. WOOHOOOOOOooo" ... so i did the same... isnt life beautiful 🙂

Silly part is, I've waved to two kombis on the harbour bridge this week, FROM MY TRAIN, & both waved back.
Work that one out......:duh
