Last year I got a parking ticket from the Melbourne City Council for parking illegally on a reserve. I was going to Cirque De Solieli and assumed that I could park there as everyone was doing it. Came out from the circus and saw that at least 200 other cars had also been booked. Fair enough Rod and I thought, we paid the fine and forgot about it until yesterday I got a letter in the mail from the Melbourne City Council advising that they had completed an extensive investigation into the incident and they had came to the conclusion that it was their fault for not having adequate signage and barricades and that they would refund the money for the ticket.
You could have blown me over with a feather !
🤘
Oh my god! you're so lucky!!
i am waiting for the letter to elect to contest it in court.
I got a fine, and contacted the council as to ask how i got a fine when there were no signs up.
they said they'd contact me...
never did...
months later....
i got a response..according to the officer there was adequate sinage! my arse..i took photos, and WENT LOOKING for signs after i received a ticket.. all the sigs i found were spray painted black, or folded in half rendering them unreadable. i even contacted them again and asked for a map that would show me where the signs were...guess what? that never happened either.
ahh well..guess i just have to wait and see..(then again..i've got TWO of them to contest!)

Good karma ms.cabrio. Sometimes they do the right thing. They probably fined someone who threatened them with a Slater and Gordon mass law suit.
How's this for a story about the Melbourne and South Melbourne Councils?
In the 1960s I moved house and changed cars regularly and I was always a car and an address behind on official records because, I was lazy not because I am a crook. I hadn't paid a parking fine for a couple of years.
One night in South Yarra a policeman holding a huge bundle of blue papers was at the front door. He asked me my name and upon confirming that I was the subject of his enquiry he said, "You are not at home tonight. Are you?" I replied that I was not at home. He then moved about 30 blueys to the bottom of the pile and said as he indicated the rest of his papers, "None of these people will be at home tonight, either.", and laughed. He explained that the police were tired of being bill collectors for the councils and that they had unoffically agreed to be inefficient and incompetent at it. He walked away with a big grin on his face. A short time later the media reported that the councils had stopped asking the police to collect unpaid fines.
I was saved from about $1,500 in unpaid fines and charges in the 1960s. I shudder to think what that would be in todays money.
