How do you classify a Yacht a boat and a ship.
What makes each of these what they are.

When is a yatch a boat and a boat a ship and a ship a yacht?????

Hi there MrX.
I'm a navy nautical type.
A boat is something you can tow behind a car.
A Launch is a motor driven vessel that is kept in a marina - ie: in the water all the time.
A yacht is anything that uses the wind as its main propulsion. (And no your bottom is not a yacht!)
Generally any yacht greater than 100ft is these days called a "superyacht", although this is not an official name.
In America they call any large pleasure vessel a yacht, weather it has sails or not - that is not the case here.
A ship is a vessel is usually more that 50metres long. In most cases they are 100metres minimum. They are classed differently than launches and fizz boats in terms of road rules at sea, so if your in a yacht cruising around the harbour and a ship is not getting out of your way its because he doesnt have to.

Might has right when it comes to ships!

Anyway, thats my swing on it.
Ahoy there me hearties!

Hang on, my ancestors came here from England in a "sailing ship" not a yacht! So how big does a yacht have to be before it becomes a ship?

By the way, they didn't even have to contribute 10 quid for the pleasure!

All submarines, regardless of their size are called boats.

A ship can carry a boat but a boat cannot carry a ship.

When does a sailing boat/yacht become a ship? When it can carry a very big sailing boat/yacht.

I would say that a sailing boat/yacht with 4 or more masts can be considered to be a ship, but it needs to be big enough to carry, say, a maxi-yacht.

An Arabian dhow, a yawl, a ketch, a fishing smack, a pearling lugger, a banana boat etc. are all two masted and are either boats or yachts.

It is possible to argue that a Chinese junk with 3 masts is a ship because of their size.

There are only two classes. Targets and submarines.... just ask someone who rides in black boats 😂
