Spent all day sat dropping the engine and putting on a new exhuast and clutch

Was awoken by the neighbours at 2am on monday to be told my kombi had been hit. Had the whole road out fire engine and lots of cops. no sign of the car that had done this.

My kombi had been pushed 15 feet down the road into a telegraph pole, roo bars took most of the damage, but front stil been dented. back is well mullered.

go knows what he was doing to move it that far.

a bit less annoyed now although getting the bus to work is not fun.

what do you think mendable. anyone got a spare rear corner
:cry
god it still looks pretty written off

holy hell. my guess would be dunnydore or falcadore, is the black on the back of the bus plastic of rubber, if its rubber it would likely be from the bumper of an early commonbore (rubber strip over big assed chrome bumper). that really sucks man. fixable, but there is alot of metal that would need cutting. are you covered?

Holy sweet jeebuz!!!!... that poor bubby got owned!!!!!

Looks like fourbie or yoot job methinks... pricks! :vader

That back end looks pretty badly monged... but you have to take your hat off to a 40 year old van that can take a hit like that and stilll be considered for repair. 🙂

I'd be thinking you'd be looking to replace everything between the mid section rear seam and the tailgate right up to the gutters... cos it looks like its been mangled right up pastm the itop of ntakes.... cann be done definitely (supposing there is no serious structural ldamage.... look very carefully... all may not be good as it seems 🙁), but it could take a while and a fair biit of cash... and finding whole panels for an early bay will probably be tricky... as you well know. 😉... a wrecker shelll may be in order?
Oh... just as a point of interest, have you tsken out that creamed b attery?.... if not, Id take that out and give the engine bay a good wash .... don't want any of that nasty acid battery water getting in where it shouldnt be and destroying the chances of a repair. 👍

Just for interests sake, there was a front left crumpled white XD Falcon Panel Van pulled over for a couple of days on the south bound lane of the F3 just south of the Berowra exit. It was gone this morning however. The damage to it had me thinking that it was done elsewhere - as if it had hit something stationary.

I feel for you Beerboy. It's always my greatest fear that my VW will be hit by some jerk. :cry
I just purchased a white 1977 bus and these pics will serve as a reminder for me to never park it on the street at home.
I hope the cops catch the guy who did this and throw the book at him. Surely there would be some evidence of his car on the ground?
Looks like a 4WD would have done it to be honest. To push the car down 15 metres and still be able to drive away would have to be a 4WD.

thanks for the support people its is appreciated

sam - yeah been here a week

I would actually like to see what state the other car is in.

Some good news is that the mother of the driver has been round and said that she will pay, sorry the kid will pay for the repairs. I think she was a bit shocked when the neighbour said it had been moved 15 feet down the road

not too sure how much help that is going to be, and to find a rear corner of a 71 is not going to be easy

battery acid is going to be an issue, i am actually finding it a bit difficult to go and look at it, which is silly as it is only a car, head in sand time

i haven'y got cover

good to see the people have come foward. as far as the corner is concerned, once the internal and structural metal is sorted i would think that from the waistline down you could use a new corner from a split, and above that a new split corner as well maybe with your original vent grafted in? save having to find a rustfree corner in another bus.

It's not killed - just hurt a bit.

That is amazing that someone admitted it - that never happens to me!! Now the spare parts hunt begins!

Edit: I can't resist: "Now you have a slammed Kombi!" :thumb

thanks for the replies, lets hope they got some savings too.

He had to own up really as he lives round the corner. seen his car yesterday and it looks better than the kombi apart from the wheel is really buckled.

still can't work out what the hell he did and how he got the cars apart.

I thought about a split corner. NOS one is not going to be cheap but does open up the years a bit

any leads really appriciated

No licence, no insurance, bit pissed, bit high.........The list of reasons is pretty long.

Good to hear you caught up with him, but I think your keener than me if your going to attempt to fix it.

try indian automotive they have a few panels hanging from the work shop roof , i am sure there is a drivers side rear corner there.
also try steve muller at kombi rescue he has a few shells sitting at his place and i believe most of them are pretty ordinary rust wise but there would have to be a good rear corner on one of them , not to sure on the years though

New panels eh??? cool! 🙂 They can prob be found, at select VW shops, but they'd want some rediculously inflated price for them i;d assume... as with any hard to get repro part.... and no, im not taking shots at the shops themselves, but all these manufacturers who hold there parts in excessive regard... 😂

Byu the way beerboy I got some feelers going out around here now down in the Shoalhaven.... I'll see if I can come up with anything. I'd hatre to see your kombi sit rusting or got to scrap/wrecker/parts hoarders etc... 👍

thanks mate, its the amount of work that a new panel would save, on filling grinding rust repair that would make it worth while. at least here a rust free s/h part is more obtainable than the uk. finding one with only dents at the front might not be so easy

I have driven it and took it to a few local smash repairers.
Now that was good for a laugh, one has quoted about 10k. thank god for the proper restorers out there.

Anyone got a rear corner :-)

Still lookin out hard for ya mate! 👍

10 grand.... i'd slap em on the right cheek and say "who is your daddy???"... thats fuckin mental :duh:

btw... how'd ya go with the FUBAR'd battery... didnt start corroding the metal too much?

Well, at least she's drivable... not too many other cars would be after that sorta hit. 🙂

My Kombi couldve been hurt pretty bad too tonight... dad was driving it and some assweed was driving pissed along the Princes Highway swerving from one shoulder to the other... if it werent that the kombi was too slow to keep up with the insane driving then dad was gonna run the drunk prick of the road with it to make sure he didnt kill anyone!... :duh

There certainly are some asscheeses on the roads... and they always manifest themselves at night.. bastards. :vader

thanks mate, yeah its started rusting most of the engine bits out, i have washed it off a few times but leaving it for a few weeks didn't help. It help me put it in perspective though. I recon it is an easy fix ;-)

can't get the battery out, we had a go with iron bars and crow bars. gave up in the end

what happened to yours.

Luckily nothing... cos dad couldnt keep up with the dick in he kombi...hehe..thank god for no high end power!

He was drivin the kombi home from work then some guy, evidently baked to a crisp, came from somewhere and started swerving vioentlyfrom one side'a the road to the other for about 5k's...almost taking out 4 or 5 cars in the process... and this was on the Princes Highway at 8:30 at night... any who dad was gonna gonna try to plant the kombi in this asshats hip and run him of into the bush to stop him from killing anybody.... thankfully tho, the kombi didnt have the balls to keep up with the dickhead, so it was spared a potentially nasty scrape... mind you, i reckon chances are a 2 ton kombi would still come off best, but itd scratch the nice shiny pain t!🙁

Hehe.... I know the intention was honourable, but it's MY KOMBI!!! :duh 😂

Hmmm...think I'll have to take the keys away from dad so he drives the Pajero LOL... I dont care if it gets minced! 😂

Shame about the battery eating the bus... have ya managed to stabilize the corrosion in the back yet, or is it still rusting bad? I was thinking perhaps spraying the engine bay with some rather alkiline substance might be a good idea... stands to reason it might neutralise the battery acid some and slow the corrosion? I'm no scientist... but seems like a good idea tho... 🙂
