ive just gone up to my property after 12mths and WHAM dipped the oil on the dub and it was WAY overfull????? decided to drop the oil and F*&K me it was full of water filled it up turned it over by hand 5 times heard the valve ting shut once or twice (sticky) tried to open the carbies to have a look and one was welded shut (chemically) pulled the weber off and mannaged to free it BUT a white powdery residue is in the manifold so off it came looked into port and its in there too...........this is a fresh t4 2.4ltr what would you do???????
What vehicle is it in?
its in a manx, pete

park it under cover :-)
I wouldnt risk running it. Take it out and make sure your crankshaft etc etc hasnt rusted....
Is the motor uncovered at all? If it is only under a carport, maybe some rain has come in on an angle and gotten into the carbies?
yeah, he knows what the problem is - what's the solution?
I have had water in my engines over the years - but only for a week or two at most. Drain oil, refill, turn over by hand several complete cycles slowly, spray some WD40 into all intakes, then spin on the starter with coil disconnected (to ensure no water/compression damage) then try to start it. Good luck

yeah thks vw did exactlly what you suggested almost drained oil new filter & refill. inc wynns engine cleaner manifolds off plugs out spray inox into cylinders turn ova by hand cple times & cple more ......drain oil, new filter, fill oil, spray inox, crank on the starter drain oil and..... still sludge!!!!!!! not so much in the oil but when i remove the strainer and poke my finger in all this sludge is in the bottom call me what you want but i dont have the guts to fire it up i think its gonna be a total strip down just 2 make sure😬 dunno someone trying to tell me i shoulda gone the 2.5 subie

Fire it up.
The sludge is an oil/water emulsion and running it hot for a while will eventually evaporate it off.
Dun sweat too much.
Iffen the engine turns over freely by hand then go for it.

Im not a complete idiot, quite a few parts are missing....
thnks tassupervee, and all the white powderie residue in the inlet ports??? what the f87k is that??? can the sludge blodk oil galleries (has a high volume pump n external cooler set up 2)
i hadent seen this car for 12 months 😬 this really pisses me id like to fire her up any more prep work i could do b4 hand to minimalize wear i just dont want it to go:puke
The white powder in the inlet ports is corrosion residue from the water laying in there. Its going to go in there when it runs.
Block the oil galleries, not likely.
Mmmmm not the nicest thing to have going thru your motor. You know how the water got there tho. Down the carbs, into the cylinders and past the rings into the sump.
Eeeeyew!
Well, it all depend on what sort of motor it is. if its a thrasher then id not be too bothered about it.
Id still be pretty confident of firing it up and just letting it run for a while nice and hot.
Thatd be my strategy anyway.............

thanks mate i appreciate your input guess i just gotta bite the bullet n do it ill fire her up 2 morow if im gonna pull er down n e way might as well give it a go neva have liked fixin things that aint broke ill do a quick compression check fire her up run it for a while n c how it goes ill let you know how things progress thanks again i just needed a little morale support👍
It may help to run some diesel oil though engine. Drain normal oil/water/sludge/ -fill with diesel and then drain. Run some new oil through-about a litre- and then fill and turn over with coil off and then start.
The bores will be rusty, don't start it , pull the heads and barrels off to clean.
Bit late now. He has already turned over the engine numerous times by hand.
