Anyone know who makes up old-school rich-bastard style enamel plates? I've seen a few splits and 356's with them and I know they aren't original's since the numbers are too high, so I figured someone must be making them......any clues??
Cheers!

They are actually bought like that from Vicroads. (That is if you are talking about Victorian plates).
You can pick numbers. if they are not taken. Then Vicroads gets them valued by Shannons, and then you pay the valuation. Usually $3000 - $5000 for high digit plates.

On the Vicroads website it says they are only available by public auction.
that is referring to original vitreous enamel plates. They are 0 to 299999 i think.
Now you can get 300000 to 999999. They cost about 395 bucks to get normal plates with the number combo's.
I want to know who can make up enamel plates that look like the vicroads issued ones.
I'm pretty sure a few people have had this done because I've seen enamels with high numbers recently, and someone told me of a guy who made them, but I can't remember who/where.
They are hand made.
I believe You can buy them or have them made in South Australia.....
as many of the cars over there have flat number plates..
that is... no raised numbers....
and I presume they are legal....
You see many original type plates on show cars....
with all sorts of names etc....
but I've never seen any info on who makes them...

None of our plates are flat-all numbers and letters are raised.I have just bought 4 digit Historic Plates and had to wait 14 days for the plates to arrive-supposedly made in Western Aus. along with all other SA plates.
Yes these ones are raised numbers too, and have 'vic' in small type vertically down the left side of the plate. Apparently copper numbers are placed under the metal plate and pressed into the bottom of the plate. They are painted in a gloss black w/white numbers.
why do you need these ren your car will never leave your drive way driving is only for the few of us who like using spanners :P

Jesus that's rich coming from you! How many of your dubs do you have on the road smartarse?
But if you got them made up and then put them on your car, won't that make you a "old-school rich-bastard" wannabe?
Kind of like wanting to own a Porsche, so you go out and buy a 924.
