Hi all, I'm having a real hard time figuring this pickle out.

as it is my car needs a new muffler, but the mech being highly into bugs, and my loving abit more power want an aftermarket setup.

this one

states on the website that it will work from model 1960 -1979 the empi 2005 catalogue 'suppliers' state it will only work on Type 1 1300-1600 beetles. mine is a 1200.......
so I am really lost, looking at the stock 1200 muffler, the heater points and outlet flanges seem different..... so does anyone have any insight?

I'd really like to get it.

won't fit, the 1200 engine is narrower than a 1300-1600.

that's true that the 1300 is a different size engine, but there's no such thing as a 1960 vw 1300.....

they had the 3 1200 engines, from then till 65. hence my confusion.

ive seen 1200s with normal after market extractors on even a 36hp oval with dual quiet packs
the only diff between a 1200 and 1300 is the crank

A 36HP exhaust/extractors won't fit a 40HP engine - I've tried... unless that was just my bad luck...
...and Robert's ya father's brother...

what you need is a set of sonic extractors to fit the 1200 ,Volkshaven 46265255 did have some of them give them a ring

Wrong, the width between the exhaust ports are different due to the shorter stroke of the 1200..........Extractors are available,or you can modify 1300-1600 to fit, but unfortunately they won't just fit straight on.

Hey, yeah pics would be good, i'm personally not a great fan of the single exhaust out the side, looks wrong to me. prob due to seeing the muffler and it hanging to one side.

i like symetry personally.
