I have now found that I have another problem. The new larger oil pressure sender will fit in the hole in the engine, but it interferes with the alternator.

I can fit a right angle adapter to the sender to clear the alternator, but am I likely to create an air lock situation which will affect the readings, because of extra distance and angles etc,?

I can also fit the sender in the original hole but then I need to buy a longer bracket to support the alternator, or make one which is work that I would like to avoid.

What do you suggest will be easiest/cheapest?

yep.. use an extension.. have seen them with tee's installed too so that you can leave the original pressure switch and add the gauge.
the pressure generated at the exit of the motor will be exactly the same as what is at the sender, even with an extension etc.
see.... air and water do mix 😉

If you are worried you could bleed the pressure line, but you shouldn't need to.-Staggers.

i run an extention on my type 4 for an oil pressure sender, and thanks to a leaky pressure switch its a self bleeding system lol. But distance/corners wont affect pressure... at least not in the distances we are talking

Thank you. I had a feeling that it would not be a problem wher presure is involved. An extension with a T for the switch is a good suggestion.

remember mechanical gauges run from the engine to the dash and work

my first bug had a very old VDO mechanical one with the hose all the way to the dashboard it worked fine but with the age of it i didnt trust it not to split the hose and pump oil all over my interior
what type of engine is this on?

It's on a Subi EJ20. The sender unit is much bigger than teoriginal and it's under the alternator, so I need to fit it with extensions.

Subject: VDO oil pressure sender

What screw-thread size, is the oil-pressure tapping on a Subaru boxer engine; it's M10 x 1•0 mm on an air-
cooled VW engine, as well as various water-cooled VW-Audi engines? I suspect it might be "R 1/8 inch DIN
2999" (whatever that is!?!), which seems to be the almost universal specification, for most Japanese petrol
engines, including Daihatsu, Honda, Mazda, Nissan/Datsun & Toyota!

For further insight into extensions and right-angled adapters, for VDO oil-pressure gauge senders and multiple
oil-pressure switches, see my mini technical article, at the following topic thread:
