Okay, got a 66 squareback that I'm converting to 12v and I have a doner 12v windscreen wiper motor from a '68. The 12v wiper motor has 4 wires coming from the terminal block and now I've half taken out the 6v and cut back the cable covering I've discoverd that it has only three. I had hoped it was a simple job of cutting and reconnecting the wires to the new 12v motor but I'm gonna have one left... What to do?

I have to go to an internet cafe to read these, if anyone has done this before and can help please text me and I'll call back, cheers - 0423 784 273

Oh, fitting resistors apparently is not the best solution for Type3's according to Boris at Vintage Veedub, they say they've never done it and it work properly.

Thanks for any assistance
Simon

not sure about the 6v but the 12v have 4 wires coz they are 2 speed so you need a switch from a later car.

Yeah looks like early T3 is single speed - I haven't had this car long or had it going properly yet, I'm sorting it for rego. I've wired up the 12v motor, left one wire disconnected but when I turn the ignition on the motor works at once. Makes no difference playing with the switch. Have I missed something obvious? Not had a chance to look at this properly today...

Early type 3 was a variable speed if the push button switch was used. Once this switch went (1964) the motor was only single speed unless you add a variable resistor to simulate the push button switch resistor. Best to use a switch from 69-71 for 12 volt but you will have to put up with th larger control knob. Not sure if they are still available from spare parts shops but there was an intermittent switch which could be added into the circuit.

Are you changing the whole assembly? Make sure you have a left hand drive (park to left) wiper assembly for the early type 3s.

Think you will find the wiper arm holes in body are different
Just fit a voltage dropper.

The wiper assy off the 12 volt left hand drive bodies fit the earlier 6 volt body holes. That one I'm sure of as I took that path with the 64 notch. 6 volt loom replaced with 12 volt along with wiper assy. From memory, I used one from a 69 notch but I think it would be the same on up to 71 models but check. When using the earlier push button switch for the 12 volt motor, two of the wires have to be reversed as the numbers don't match as well as one not connected.
