this saturday night a 4 cylinder demolition derby will be held at nowra speedway after the race meeting has finished .
I have been repairing air-cooled VW's for 21 years and now I have decided to destroy one !!
I have entered the demolition derby with a 1971 (very rusty) superbug , kindly donated by Coolangatta Native Nursery . Many thanks to Paul & Sue .
Here are a few pics of the superbug .

looks like fun. lets see some pics of whats left afterwards.
Reimagined/Recycled/Upcycled Cool
i reckon teh type 3 square would be the nuts guts for this. big and strong with the bar behind the front bumper. rear motor for good traction and easly line of sight for hitting. all those other fools need to go backwards, but not a fatchick notch.
hav fun!
Simply Cruzin'...
Be sure to weld a 12mm plate to the full inside of the drives door a car hits you in the door it will brake your hip .
.Machine a colar to retain the steering wheel from comming up through the body and through your chest ( not nice )
put a smaller size steering wheel on as if the door comes into the steering wheel you may get your hand jamed .
the pipe if you got put across the car beghind the back seat well not do nothing .you need to get some angles X brace it .
disconect the brake lines from the front struts & rear a arms let them hang free
fit a plate to the under side of the floor for the seat , the fist hit the seat will rip off the floor and you will be on your back .
with your motor in the back they will be making a beeline for your rear ,are you allowed to put a super heavy rear bumper on it strengthen your engine lid ,but obviously you are no dumbass ,make sure you get plenty of pics that sounds like a bunch of fun

and make sure you stuff the whole car with heavy duty cotton wool :P
oh n make sure you get an apprentice or someone to drive not because you might hurt yourself but because we cant afford to loose an quality vw performance innovator like yourself
good luck watch your ass and have fun mate:thumb

Your brave hypo, I mean not many people would come on here saying they want to destroy a dub. All the best to you!

Volkswagen ist der strassekoning - Vergnügen fahren finden!
My mate Mad Max has done many of these and seen his set ups .Should you wish to come out of the car in one peice its worth doing .The rules in the west may be different but I just went and looked a cage getting built down the road .do you have a helment lash set up ? two cars at 40ks an hour is a hard hit .
when i was up in Bundaberg one of the local vw mechanics was fitting a short nose sqaure back with an upright 1200 engine for a demo derby and fitting a box section frame around the engine bay
car was almost completly rust free, luckily my partner saved it before it went into the death pit lol

The demolition derby was great fun !! Dean ( my son ) captured the whole thing on video and it was a real buzz to watch it played back . The superbug went quite well with 24 cars being entered and I got down to the last 8 cars .
Looking back at the video , I suppose I should have taken it a little easier and protected the bug a lot better than I did , BUT I was out there to demolish cars and that is just what I did !!
The biggest hit that I had was with a white mitsubishi magna wagon . The magna was reversing at a rapid rate with the driver looking over his shoulder when I spotted him . I drove at him on full throttle 1st gear .
"he later said to me" After he had hit the car he was ramming , he looked down and selected 1st gear to go forward , then looked up to see the white superbug coming head-on with him and he couldn't grab reverse gear quick enough !!
" when I saw the bug coming at me so fast , I nearly shit my pants " he said . He then shook my hand and congratulated me on doing so well in the bug .
Many of the other drivers also couldn't believe that the bug lasted so long .
The engine and transmission is still fine in the superbug and the steering still turns to the right . A severly bent front bumper stops the wheels from turning left. I did lots of right turns to avoid damage .
I did weld the diff in the superbug but after being hit in both rear wheels , CV joints broke on both sides and thats what disabled the superbug .
The only straight panel on the superbug was the roof , which now has a few minor dents from me jumping out of the superbug and up onto the roof at the end of the derby , showing off to the crowd !!
The roof has now been removed and fitted to HORACE THE SPEEDWAY BUG as Dave rolled it over again on the same night !!
Here are some pics !!

Yeah come on WP.... Get that boy of yours to digitise the vid and get it up here.... We need to to see the car'nage!.... sounds like it was a blast..... Never would have thought a dub could've done so well!!
thanks guys , it was really fun and a lot easier to get out of the way of other cars than I had expected . With the welded diff , wintertread tyres , and a really well tuned engine the superbug went really well . It must have been a lot easier for me , being able to drive forward and ram other cars , than to drive in reverse all the time .
Most of the damage on the front of the superbug was done by me ramming other cars .
I will see if the video footage can be uploaded . Will let you know soon .
