now this was the front page story of this weekends northen star:
Becareful, the cops are cracking down this year, no drugs, arrests promised, last year 4-6 cops, this year a squad of police and drug specialists...they want it shut down...
whats new they targeted the convoy last year breathalized every kombi & the
irony was all these cars coming out of nimbin were full of young,uns off there trees
hooting & hollering as they drove past the police blockade of kombi's.
but they did get one kombi driver for a breach of the law👎
Its the drugs they want this year, the police arent going to turn a blind eye to drugs, they have in the past. This year they are taking a zero tolerance, instead of a hands off approach. Even minor breaches will be taken seriously.
Which is good, Nimbin is a #$%@hole of a town, and im not sure why we celebrate a dirty, crime ridden town...

Then the govt. should start a crack down on centrelink, make some of these wankers go out and get a job like the rest of the world and stop bludging off our taxes...

all i wanted to know was some general info not a political damnation of such a 'unique' town that maybe thankfully is not the norm but each to there own and if the law enforcement go all out well then so be it..
though judging from what other AVD members told to me about last year people had a great time and basically behaved themselves..
n if they do shut it down it may then be moved to the netherlands or somewhere where it is seen as a social norm than a social taboo frowned on by what seems a handful (ie: law makers that cant regulate it, therefore tax it) i think of prohibition on alcohol in earlier times and look where that ended up..
so i look foward to a fun afternoon and evening with happy smiling people..😉

Was just warning that the cops are cracking down on Nimbin and plan is to bust up mardigras...
It might be cool and fun loving at mardigras, but not a fun place anyother time, violence, rape, drug abuse, addiction, mental illness, underage prostitution, child abuse, break and enters, robbery, vandalism, suicide, all in a little town on a regular basis...thats not that peaceful...but each to their own...
Byronbus you're right about the 'other times', had to go up there for 'business' and the locals thought I was an undercover cop. Started to get very heated, but all was ok when they realised what I was there for.🥲
Ive been on the convoy many times, remember when it used to leave friday arvo, you'd arrive in the night, was a bit hairy in those days...the convoy is tops...
But just warning, the cops will be looking for people to bust, mainly drugs but also will be looking at cars...
Craig, Nimbin can get very heated...terrible storys of stuff happening there on a weekly basis
its the ppl that live there u gotta feel sorry for
my best mates parents live there and it gets so hecktic at mardigrass u cant get through town
on the upside there are heaps of old vws hiding out that way if u know where to look
theres an old green early model sunroof bug on the river bank by the bridge as u leave nimbin
its completely overgrown with mornining glory now
