I am thinking I might buy a shipping container to put my oval in while I build my house. I can get a garage at mini storage places but at the end of the day, I'll be down $1000 at the end of the 6 months (if I am lucky). So I figure if I buy a container and chuck it on a corner of the block, I will probably piss off the neighbours and the builders but at the end I will be able to sell the container and hopefully make the money back, or part of it. Prices vary wildly for shipping containers. $1000 to $4000. Has anyone had experience moving containers? That is the thing that bothers me most. Not like something I can just throw onto the back of a courier truck. What does it cost to get one moved per km?

I emailed a company in neutral bay. The delivery was cheaper than I expected, but the cost of container is more. 🤖 $2150 for container and $300 on a tilt tray. If you get it delivered on a tilt tray, would it be able to be put on sleepers? I wouldnt want it sitting directly on dirt gettting the bum rusted out of it.

Why not really piss the neighbours off and build your house out of containers?

Would your council let you build a big back yard shed as a storage place only, before you build your house? Most won't as thet think that you will move into it and never build or finish the house.

I have thought about doing that, building a detached garage first. Only I have a sloping block so a big part of the cost is excavations. I am mortgaged to my eyeballs so I cant really borrow more money. I need to sell the house I am in first, before I can build the shed. Theres also the fact that the garage needs to be 4 cars minimum. I can leave the other cars outside but my baby needs to be locked up warm and dry. 🤪

I have also thought about buildng a whole house out of kombis, but the missus wont even entertain the idea.

Hmm if I build a shed first and move into it, that would mean less time living with my father in law.

The other drawback I have is that I am not allowed to build within 3 metres of the back fence so a shed out the back is not really an option.
