I have a gearbox to store away as a spare. Iv tried to remove the axles to reduce the space it will take up in storage, but havent been able to get them out of the box. Can you tell me how to release the axle from the gearbox?

Remove the drums,
undo the bearing retainer and extract it and its assorted shims and spacers blah,
undo the nuts holding the round tin plate to the diff side plates (NOT the ally diff sideplate itself),
draw out the tube right over the axle, This might be fun.
look inside the hole where the axle goes in to the diff and you will see a a fair sized circlip lurking in there, you need to remove that circlip and the axle will then fall out.
Dont forget to retrieve the axle spacers/block thingies that will/should remain in where the spade shaped end of the axle came from and keep them with their respective axles.
Voila!
