I have gone once before for it, failing due to a red hatchback not giving way, examiner hitting brake before i did, and failing me cause he interviened. [Have hated ricer hatchbacks since, BURN EM!]
I'm saving money again, and its counting up. sorting my priorities. If i have my Ps, i can go to valla BUG OR NOT! (use dad's bommodore). Will try to get both, but rather get p's before baja.
Any good tips and methods to getting Ps? Ways to look confident, things to consider and remember? Easy things that can make u fail? how to overcome them?
(my mother flerted with the examiner to get hers, she walked away with his phone number to, and NO, this examiner did not later become my father. 😂)
Just take your time with everything to be 110% sure that what you're doing is right, and DEFINITELY keep an eye out for other drivers who hate L platers.
I failed my P's the first time, doing reverse parking my mirror just tapped a wheeliebin that was in the gutter, but the tester bitch was adament that I should park there (even though there was 50m ahead all clear) so yeah, I failed straight away. My driving instructor was livid at the tester, she hated my instructor and he said she fails all of his people. Had to save $$ for the test again, and I passed 100%. :P
Just stay calm and relaxed and try not to "know everything". It's all attitude. If they like your attitude you will pass.If you're overconfident and a know it all you will fail. Good luck!!!

My fiancee was failed for another stupid reason something to do with turning right on a yellow light having entered the intersection on a green light. There was no car coming through the intersection but one some distance away, but she was failed for not waiting until it was red in her direction and then proceeding.
I passed first time so I am not much use and so i dunno about going the second time. My brother took 4 or 5 goes to get his.
Sorry to sound cynical but I think it is getting pretty hard to pass the test first time now. All the best and just be confident that you are a good driver. :thumb

cheers all. I luv it, to cruise around driving can be fun, exploring, the freedom.
It is getting hard to pass 1st time. i can imagine alot of people have some bad stories of failing here. If i remember correctly, beb (donna) had failed 1st for being too good. She even reversed parked on a hill, and did it right, and failed. 🙁
heard also the other day that a bloke tester down here in Hobart fails everyone first time, cos one kid he passed (a couple of years ago now) and he went out and killed himself that day or something. But thats a little bit morbid...Just keep trying Chris is all I can say.

i passed my P's on the first go with no lessons at all.....
so im not that much help.
but id say just try to be calm.
always remember to check your mirrors they watch for that a lot.
pay attention to everything. including your speedo! dont go too slow though as they dont like that either.
be nice but dont be annoying.
reverse parking is what gets most people.
take note of comments left on your last failure and think about how u can fix those problems.
and if ur reaction time wasnt quick enough to brake when someone ran a give way sign then u need to remember u wont always have an instructor to brake for you.
eat some high glucose lollies about half an hour before the test and have a good breakfast but dont drink 5 coffees in fact id say dont drink any coffee it will make you jittery

Always remember that the RTA car park is deemed as part of the road. So make sure you STOP before exiting onto the road - as in most instances they'll have a stop sign.
Also if you can do a handbrake start on a hill before they even ask you to, that shows that you may be switched on about driving.
I did teh reverse park right, passed that, did hill starts without request, stopped at stop signs, got the car back to the department of transport in one piece. but that chill, of the examiner saying ok lets drive back now, i stillremember that, and knew i had failed. he didn't say till we got back, but i could feel it.
Check your mirrors regularly. Try to be aware of the colour of the cars in your rear field of vision. Err on the side of caution and be prepared to back-up the choices you make. Above all, treat it seriously, don't make lame jokes or glib comments.
Good Luck Chris.
A POSSE AD ESSE.
I live in my own little world, but it's okay, they know me here.
Firstly, I do not work, sleep with, or take royalties from Learner instructors... !
BUT... get a lesson or two .... they usually take you round the actual course and show you the pitfalls..... I FAILED my first go... was ridiculously confident and thought I nailed it, then found out I failed about a few minutes into it....🤪... after a lesson I got em no worries...
best of luck 🙂
take a lesson the morning of your Ps test. it helped me clear any nerves that i had previously stocked up. also, your instructor will tell you what to look out for and concentrate on during the test.
i had three lessons in the time i had my L's, they were worth every cent. especially that last one. i would have failed if that lesson was my driving test, i was so nervous i just kept plowing through a school zone at 60 clicks. baaad.
I used my old 63 beetle for my test (past first time by the way and didn't wear short skirt/low cut top) - but the instructor was so large (ie. fat) the lap sash seatbelts didn't have enough adjustment for him to do his up. Then when we finished the test and parked in the dept of transport carpark on a hill I put the handbrake on the usual way and it started to roll back slightly because of the weight (had to reef it up an extra notch or two).
I guess do it in a car you're comfortable with - the advice of having a lesson before your test is very true.
my test was on a friday at 4pm
tester got into the car closed his book and said drive
didn't even have to do a reverse park
i think he just wanted to get home and yes i did pass
but that was back in the 80's. i think things are a little harder now
just be confident and good luck :thumb

barry. i heard a slightly different version to that story, but that the general idea. and he not just fail first timers, he fail anyone, just for the hell of it, it seems.
he's pulled the handbrake during the test of a couple of my friends cos he thinks the cars are too close. in the end they had plenty of time to get through the corner, but they still fail cos he pulled the brake.
yes, he has a reputation...
