"Typical of unofficial use of Volkswagen engines were the Tempo Matador forward control vans and pick -ups built in Germany by the Hamburg firm Vidal und Sohn KG, between November 1949 and May 1952 The Tempo Matador hit the market before Volkswagen's own Type2 transporter was released."

The matador was far from unofficial. It was factory endorsed.
And no ideas... I'm talking to the finder right now.
It looks sad! LOL

well what ever you do, good luck, there's a hell of a lot of work to do on it.
BTW, it'd go great with a 2332 and IDAs. :P
If acquisition and transport is beyond my means I will post the location.
Is that its chassis behind it?

Can't wait to see if it rises from the dead. That is one unique ride and one that deserves some love. I envy anyone attempting a resurrection.

Matt you nut. Cut it, cut it!! Looks like you get a free victa and the kitchen sink too.
You hear of people who can restore complete early century cars from a few bits of crust on an entaglment of crusty bars. Where its hardly anything left. And they work out beautifully, had a book somwhere here, mag rather, and what they had done from what they had at the start was incredible.
Compared with them, this don't look to bad. Definitely not easy though.
Atleast most of it is there.

Good find Matt,
looks like a lot of cab work, but it's all possible, flat glass makes it all much easier.
These things unreal and were powered by 25hp 1100 vw engines attached to VW gearboxes with modified swing axles to suit the front wheel drive configuration and were endorsed by VW until the introduction of VWs Type 2. VW stopped supplying motors and gearboxes to a direct competitor so Tempo changed to Austin motors and ZF gearboxes until the end of the Matador that we know. Once the VW Type 2s were introduced here in 1954 the Matador was pretty much dropped.
Bendigo's (Vic) VW dealer sold quite a few and had a Matador as a shop vehicle/parts chaser well into the '60s and it was still running around till the '80s, last time I saw it it had a 40hp motor in it and pretty much 100% complete but the owner won't part with it.
Cheers, Ian.
