These were very popular back in the 60s & 70s....
called Quick Shifter conversions....
they are very inexpensive and very easy to fit....
and they cut down the distance You move the gearlever by about 50%...
They should be fitted by someone who has taken out a VW g/lever and replaced it.. [ and it worked OK.]
as they can be tricky with reverse.. and the gears need to be evenly spaced.....
A great invention.... but I haven't heard anyone mention them for a long time....
Lee
PS... I don't recommend them for autostick VWs....

i've got one in my bug and love it
when teamed with a new rod bushing, coupler and comfy carbon fibre shift knob it shifts better than most of the new cars ive driven
Joel
ive got one in chaos thats been there since 98 but will be replaced eventually with the scat dragfast shifter ive now got

I had one in my BAJA worked real good, Then I got a Empi T bar shifter for free so that went in.

got one in my bus, love it... awsome when you need that quick 1st to 2nd shift.
there on ebay atm for around $15 - $20 regularly... defiantly worth it.
i had one - got the shits with it and took it out lol
made driving feel "cheap"....

Berg shifter in the bus. Makes the gear changes very positive. Great for drag racing 🙂
Hi
They are great, just dont shift too fast or you might break something.
I had one in my old 1302 along with a Type 3 gear stick. The guy who bought my bug sold his 911 to buy it, he couldnt believe how nice my bug shifted compared to his 911, it must have been an early 911 with the 915 box.
I have a Scat shifter in my 1300, Im going to ditch the tee bar and make it taller.
Steve
I need a shifter what out there now ?
need to be sporty

quick shift kits work great,
until you use one of these
Most people seem normal, till you get to know them.
Yep

After market wood knob and real happy.

Futue te ipsum!!!
I have two shift kits stacked in the kombi. I like 'em, but maybe not everyone's cup of tea.

Hi
They feel nice but I cant work why they have a Tee bar.
Steve
im not real crash hot on the ones with reverse lock out triggers and buttons
had problems with them before
alot of those aftermarket T shifters are built for LHD cars and have the lock out button on the wrong side
the stock shifter with a quickshit kit and a nice gear knob work well i find
Joel
The Berg shifter in the bus is designed for a RHD vehicle. I thought a bit funny about the T bar at first, but it actually works well, especially since the stirring pot is gone. 🙂
Bottom LH coner of this pic.
.
Yes Scarlet,
do the cheaper and easier things, which will need doing anyway... even after gearbox repairs...
the crunching etc can disappear with new bush etc...
and adjustment of the shifter itself....
