Tell Me I'm not the only one having problems fitting the silver convoluted air hoses to heater boxes....
I also have trouble fitting them to the fan housing...
but I do succeed.....
but the heater boxes are terrible....
I think the heater hose and the heater box are the same size.... 50mm....

Anyone know where I can find some 2 inch silver convoluted hose... [maybe concertina]....

Two inch hose would be ideal....

Check industrial airconditioning companies. Got all mine for my previous car from one of these mobs on the Gold Coast.

I'll have a look around....

I wonder if the stuff sold by aftermarket VW shops comes from Brazil?
and whether there is a size difference...

many VW parts from Brazil aren't identical in size copared with German parts....

The silver hose is crap, if you use the factory grey "donkey dick" hose it will fit fine.

hey lee,

i've gone through all this crap so many times
i run extractors so need to run hoses right down to the heater boxes
tried plastic hoses once naturally they melted
facotry style paper stuff gets wet and falls apart
u should always have hoses in place if u have heaterboxes even if they arent connected as the need constant air pumped through them otherwise ur heads can overheat from them or so ive been told, i see alot of bugs with the hoses removed and heater boxes still in place
i got sick of having no heaters this time of year so 3 weeks ago i set about finding some tough durable hose
went for a look in supercheap and found they had some 50mm hose bout 300mm long that felt quite tough
it has some sort of foil inner tube and outter tube i dont know what it is but it stretched to over 1M long enough for both sides
its been in for 3 weeks bow as u can see its very close to the header and hasnt melted or deformed at all so im fairly happy with it

Back in the UK there used to be plastic pipe made for heater hose. It was a lot neater, worked and didn't melt luckily enough!

Thanks for the input guys....

I didn't know about the special collars for the heater boxes
never ever seen one.... [that i can remember]
I have also mislaid the collars for the heater muffler tubes that go between the body & the top of the heater boxes.

That is the reason why heater boxes don't look like anything goes onto them, as they are tapered....

I'll have to get a couple of those collars... but the 2 inch stuff should be great...as its still terrible trying to fit the standard 50mm hose onto the fan shroud....

74L Mine goes that close to the exhaust on the RHS..too.
and I know about how critical it is to have all those hoses fitted so no precious cooling air is lost....

I had some of that silver/black foil tube fitted to my fast back, lasted about three months before it was split and falling to pieces. Since then I have used a black fabric tube with a sprial wire in it, bought it from Purple Pig. Has lasted at least 12 months since installation and shows no sign of being worn out. It was a pain to install though, ended up having to cut a split into the end to get it to fit.

I think the 2 inch stuff is the one to get...
It would be good if it was a bit thicker than the vw stuff too...
2 inches is about 1mm larger than the vw stuff...

The black plastic stuff looks real nice, but I don't think I'd like it so close to the exhaust.... would look OK in the engine bay though....
