same as a 58 as it has the hella elephant ears on the pillar or should have

Or if it doesnt have semiphores or Elephant ears, it should have the 50/50 taillights...

Hi Neil,
Here is a picture of a late 1960-61 beetle tail lamp made by Hella in germnay and only used in Australia and Italy...
These are extremely rare...
When the lenses deteriate, the whole assembly is usually changed to the 62-67 tail lamps [inclusive] as they are larger than the 60-61 tail lamp...
The 62-67 tail lamp lenses will NOT fit onto these bases...
The early 60 tail lamp is the glass lense red tail lamp , same as on the 56-57-58-59 beetle.....

The elephant ears ?? blinkers were an accessory made by Hella in the 60s.... they were used to replace the semaphores.... [trafficators]
they were never available as standard equipment on any Beetle....

my 59 has both elephant ears and the 50/50 tail lights and clear front idicators. i'm sure this era had alot of changes aswell as people retro fitting extra items. I have been trying to fiqure what is the standard equipment for a while, there is just to many specs.

Hi,
If Your Beetle is a 59 or an early 60 model, it should have pull open outside door handles... and holes for semaphores where the accessory blinkers went...
The late 60 beetle with no semaphores [trafficators]
had push button outside door handles... 50/50 tail lamps etc... actually, VW used to advertise how to Make Your Beetle the latest model... and show the car being painted another colour and adding the lastest lights etc...
