Dont bother

do the sums

Power = Volts x amps

If you pull 10 amps (ie A LOT) you get a whopping 120 Watts :sandrine

You "shouldnt" be having problems.
I ran a prog weber without heat risers for 2 years in costal sydney with out a problem.

What sort of carb you have??
heat risers??

Ok - that is the 6V but it is about $80 plus postage

Better things to do with your money.

I have heard people say that you can plumb a pipe, like for an external oil cooler, but run the pipe around the manifold and insulate it. Oil temp keeps it from icing... never seen it but the theory seems sound. Or get twins🙂

I don't know what eng/car combo u have but if it's the type 1, u have masses of hot air being blown out the back. If u can rig some of that cheap ducting on 1600 fan housings (so elegantly ref to as "Donkey Dicks") to blow some on the carb & manifold that may be all u need. U would have to run without the rear cover plate tho.
ie stuff a DD into the heater boxes & point the outlet where the icing is worst.
U should at least provide some hot air to the air cleaner so the carb sucks warm air

My bike has after market heated grips-damn effective too. They would be worthless to a bike wrecker if the bike got smashed on one side so he may even giv u the other one!
Might be worth a call or 2.
Also check out heated vests etc in used bike gear

All Beetles from about 64 on had a heated inlet hose to preheat the air going to the carburetor...
[I can't remember the early ones]
It was about 25mm inside Diameter at first and then changed to the common heater hose size 50mm... in approx 1968 in Australia...
The VW oil bath air cleaners had a flap which You could clip up in the summer so no hot air went into the carby..
In the winter , the flap was unclipped and warm air was directed into the air cleaner..
the Hose went to the bottom rear plate near the crankshaft pulley... and under the plate hung a piece of pipe which collected the hot/warm air from the engine...
the early beetles had the hose coming from the Left hand side of the crankshaft pulley....
the later ones 1968> had it from the Right hand side..

I have seen many beetles with this preheater hose hole not blocked up, allowing hot air into the engine bay....
I have a cover plate over the hole in My tinware...

So, if You have a 50mm [2"] hole in Your tinware....
thats what it was made for.....

Here is a pic of the pipe....

When I lived in Canberra I used to duct some warm air from bebind the engine into the air cleaner in winter. I put a beer can with both ends off on the lower end and directed it through corrugated cardboard heater tubing, straight into the aircleaner. In a Beetle it will be possible to tap the warm air behind the engine if you take of one of those little pieces of tinware.

Hi

I used to run a Holley bugspray, they are the worst carb you can have for icing up. I had good results using the hot air take off like Lee showed, then I put a small ice cream container upside down over the air cleaner and ran some hose up from the the hot air take off, it worked great.

I found my icing was much worse in the morning if I hosed the dew and ice off my car.

car is a baja bug. engine is 1600 single port with 30 pict carbie.
no heater boxes as i run twin cannons.

i also dont have a stock oil bath air cleaner.

i have heat risers and the holes are drilled out on my exhaust manfold.

should i make a ducting tube off one of the heater outlets on the fan shroud? how would i feed the air into the carbie? im using a round ram flo air cleaner.

My Son runs a Holley Bugspray....
He does have heat risers....
whether thay are working -- not sure....
but His carby does ice up.....
and actually freezes up.....

He tried one of those electrical manifold heaters without success....

but We start getting Zero degrees about now....

it can also be lack of fuel too
ive just gone back to a single carb and had icing and a real bad hesitation which ive fixed by playing with my main jet size
i dont run air cleaner preheat or a thermostat(for a few more days anyway) plus an Lbug engine lid lets alot of cold air in but i finally got on top of it with the right main jet size

dads trike had a real bad icing problem for a while and its all open like a baja but it turned out the cut off solinoid wire was loose
cutting off the fuel was causeing it to ice up

Some heat risers look like they are there,?
but with Extractors [headers] etc

when You work it out, there is the same pressure at both sides....
there has to be exhaust pressure on one side and a lower pressure on the other so the exhaust actually flows from one side to the other...

thats why VW mufflers have a solid - high pressure on the left hand side and a low pressure -pipe- on the Right Hand side, so the exhaust can flow from one to the other...
from Left to Right....
it doesn't really matter which way it flows so long as it does flow....

yea thats the stupid thing with all the headers out there
ive toyed with the idea of cutting the long return pipe part of a standard exhaust and just connecting to the collector part of a header but i normally run twin carbs so i havent bothered
even though with extractors both sides are pressurised it still sends heat up abit through convection is it?

thats why u use the gasket with a small hole on one side only
