I am not really a fan of the watercooled VW's either (believe it or not!!!). I have always preferred the aircooled VW's, but bought a new beetle because I wanted a safe and reliable car with all the creature comforts. When I bought my Cabrio I was actually looking at buying a Mazda MX5 but the beetle won because it was a VW ...........:sandrine

With all due respect, but it is actually called a Beetle from the factory unlike the aircooled beetle which is actually a Type 1 .........

I know that, doesn't change my thought that it was the most disgraceful , not to mention disrespectful, name they could have given to a front engined car.
Imitation is the sincerest form of self failure.

Well my friends are gone & my hair is grey, I ache in the places where I used to play.
What i have noticed, is with alot of dubs that i originally found ugly, it became an acquired taste.
the more i saw em, and interacted with them (like mates ones etc), the more i grew to like em.
Some are just butt ugly, Hehe. But they all have their ups and downs. like the t3, they don't look extra ordinary, i'm sure theres a good looker of them i haven't seen though, but their internals are something to orgasm over.

I love Buses (bay and split)... I love Beetles... I love New Beetles... I love Karmann Ghia's... I love Type 3's... I love Golfs.... I love the little things in between... and I love em all for different reasons.
But then i pretty much love every car for what it offers... i would just never choose to own one.
I love my Kombi the most... that's why i drive it and not something else :P

Not a fan of new beetle, new kombi, like the new passet.
I dont like many VWs from the 70's. Like the older cars myself!

Isn't that the prototype for the wiggles car???:P:P:P:P:P:P
Can't say I like many of the VW's from the 1970's. They lost all their character visually once they had to comply with ADR's. Watercooled and front wheel drive just doesn't cut it for me in a VW. One thing I truly dislike are the final previous owners of Hebmullers, split window beetles, ovals and anything up to 1959 that they knowingly sent to a scrap yard to be someday turned into a hyundai. Shame.....:bounce Please feel free to dump any rare volkswagen on my lawn before you consider giving it to a scrap yard....(I hate being 50years too late for a bargain!!!:P) - Adam
Goddamit!..as a Cabrio it does kinda grow on ya... like some bad fungus!
😂
As for the beetles going to scrap... they wouldnt have been turned into hyundais I dont think... the badge clips and and guages and knobs would not yield enough recycled plastic to make so much as a hyundai wheelnut!
😂 :P

I dont really have a problem with the majority of newer VW's... I love the new Passat when its lowered a teeny bit and has some decent rims.
The T4 I liked until they put the crappy new style of headlight on em a while back... I rather like the Kombi Beach.. but I dont necessarily agrree with it being called a Kombi and am not impressed with the way VW are trying yto market it.
Jetta's are the sex. 👍
Golfs... well, Mk 1's and Mk 2's are the ducks nuts... later ones arent really my bag, but they arent horrid... I quite like the early passats too, and am very fond also of the Mk 1 Polo...the latest Polo's Im not fussed about.
The Scirocco is one totally sexy beast indeed!
I love T3 kombi's... especially aircooled ones... I just dont think much at all of the crap square lights on the watercooled ones.
New Beetles I will never like... they just arent what I consider to be terribly appealing as far as aesthetics go, and early build quality left a great deal to be desired... given that tho, this may have improved since. I agree with whoever it was that said the NB was a pretentious vehicle marketed entirely innappropriately... the beetle is like the DC-3... it couldnt and shouldnt be replaced. 🙂

Good thread here...people are listening to each other & taking critizism well....
Aren't we glad VW made a different models to please everyone..
I have seen so many models over the years just when I think I don't like a certain model, I see one that makes you stop & say "That is Sweet As"...so I never say that I hate a certain type anymore....

all these young kids are spending bucks trying to make cars sound hot by changing a muffler. All cars not just hyundais. Somebody ought to tell them that the hot sound comes from the intake, not the exhaust.
To get back on topic, my favourite VW dislike is thunderbird hotdog mufflers. For all the obvious reasons stated above.
ive got an article from one of the 4 cylinder mags and it says and i use it at work to educate the little F*^&s that a car with an engine size 2L and smaller does not need anything bigger than 2 inches in the exhaust but the turbo versions are up to 2.5 inch. i laugh when i see an exhaust thats big enough to shove the owners head inside

I hate T4 vans for the simple fact that when these things came out there was a flaw with the gearboxs mainly automatics and i was the lucky person at the dealership to have the job of removing these and replacing them, and if they didnt need a gearbox they needed to have a air conditioning system fitted. I must have done close to one evey day for a 6 months. I went on a holiday and upon returning to work found that rather than someone else do them they were all lined up waiting for me. I quit a week later 🙂
razors and brick vans are an acquired taste. at first you gag, then you want one. i'll take both. Country buggies too.
the dubs i dislike are those with major body mods. not bajas or kit cars but those with roof chops, ford fronts, chevy wings, and what ever else they just weren't meant to have. there are exceptions though.
oh and the touareg. - heavy 4wd's in general. no one in europe drives the big BMW, MB, Porsche or VWs. i didn't see even one when i was there. seems that they just make them for us and the yanks. in rural areas obviously they're not such a problem.

I'm thinking 'bout twin 3" with 5" tips instead of the single 3" on my V8 Land Rover... But that's a big car so it needs a big exhaust!
