My 1800 twin-carb kombi has a hesitation problem which is driving me nuts.

When accelerating lightly and when cruising (say 60kph in third gear), it has a noticeable 'judder'... in fact when i put my foot down it initially seams to slow down before picking up, like its momentarily running lean or something???

Any ideas? What specifically in the carb tune-up procedure should i be looking for?

I'm about to set fire to the fu**ing thing

Sam

p.s. valves, timing, elec ignition, single vac dizzy, fuel pump, air filter all checked out OK

hows the condition of the distributer, its not worn on the shaft is it. i know you have rebuilt the carbs so im thinking more along this line also how are the ignition leads not too worn can you check the continuity of the leads with a multimeter

I have this problem too. It used to be real bad till I plugged up the air leaks in the carbies but that seemed to help a lot.
The throttle shafts are still buggered on the carbs causing air leaks so it still does it but not as bad.

Hmmm, think i have a bit of a leak on the Right Hand Side throttle shaft so maybe that might be it?

Def got 4 working spark plugs - checked all the HT leads by pulling them off and watching spark jump to earth (that right?)

The distributor seems good - i've watched it advance with the strobe light (up the rev range) which it seems to do smoothly with no jumps... and the vac advance is working

Any other ideas? Whats involved in getting the carb throttle shaft re-bushed? $$$?

had my carbs rebushed last week...cost $50 each
they replaced the teflon wrap and steel bush with a teflon bush and reamed it to a close fit on the throttle shaft

Just sprayed some WD40 around the place and couldn't find any leaks ???

The right hand throttle shaft has a little play in it... its not majorly loose or anything but there's a noticeable wobble - could that be it? Doesn't seem too bad to me ?

Anyone else had this flat spot problem?
