I wanna keep the standard exhaust for the moment, am happy with it. But... the exhaust tip touches on the bar work, not letting it go in, cause its on the same level, well, the bottom of the barwork anyways...
Is it ok to cut off a few inches of the tip? or is there another method? anyone got any better rear barwork for me?
I got a rear bar, but it only mounts on the bottom of the gearbox, the shock towers, and the rear torsion tube. its not a rear cage in that it doesn't wrap up over the engine. would luv one that did though.

let me see if I understand this....
... your building a Baja and you are using a stock exhuast on a Type I (Beetle) engine - correct?
...er...I'm struggling to see why the stock exhaust tips would interfere with a Baja cage, but in any case, you could shorten them ... would probably be best to remove them from the muffler and cut the end that fits into the muffler, that way there will be no sharp edges sticking out.
Got any pics? I'm really interested to see what you mean...

soz, yeah, will get some pics. Was told that extractors are good for noise on small engines, and not really much else, only having high performance effects on bigger engines than 1.5 ltr.
I think its stock, will get a piccy tomorrow. It might not be stock actually... nah, its not from memory, cause its got only 1 exhaust tip..., and the body had too little droves for 2 tips from the muffler (on the rear apron).
will get pic tomorrows, and will c if i can bet a better rear barwork/cage. Me don't like the bar i got.

if its just a standard pea shooter exhaust box but only has one then its off a kombi
does anyone know if they're much more restrictive with only one?
i know the standard twin peashooters on a bug are restrictive enough with out only being one of
Joel
id get used to this chris.
building a baja u will soon find out that when u change something u have to change something else to make that work and so on.
sounds to me like its not stock....though it could be a kombi one.
where does the pipe exit?thru the cutouts on the apron?

dunno, engine wasn't in when i got the car with the apron still on... + i sold the apron to a mate, 🙁
Its on the right side of the car (if facing the rear)... will get pick now if batteries in camera still have juice.

its called an econo system
it is an extractor system for vw road cars
so you might as well loose it and put on a proper one that is up out of the way
saves a lot of dicking around
you should be able to pick one up 2nd hand
at least cheap!

anyone who says it's bad to put subaru motors in vw's.....

as long as the pic is less than 100kb it works fine
like subibaja said thats an econo extractor
cheap system that sounds nice but dont do much else
Joel
tru.
was told its no use having an extractor system anyways cause it don't do much unless u got a pretty fat engine capacity, IE: 2ltr, well, anything over 1.5 anyways :P
Doesn't worry me, will leave it there, less work, less $ to spend. 😀😀

The main reason to put a Baja exhaust on is to gain ground clearance at the rear, not necessarily to get extra performance. You may as well go and get a Baja exhaust to begin with as you will soon damage the current system on your first trip offroad.

be a while before i hit offroad.... lol. I like the look of twin hotdogs betta than this system anyways, just depends how rough of an offroading i'm doing. semi auto tranny isn't gonna be any good in the real rough stuff anyways.. but i only want it for recreation and multipurpose (IE: just not bitumen).
But in time 😀

A POSSE AD ESSE.
I live in my own little world, but it's okay, they know me here.
chris. Whatever you finish up with I recommend a Baja style 4 into 1 exhaust with a fairly quiet muffler. Hot dogs are good for noise only, full blast driving and are much less fuel efficient for long trips. When cruising at speed a 4 into 1 is more efficient and the engine seems to run sweeter.
