just wondering how to adjust the choke on my Type 3s 1600 with dual carbs? since she has gotten back from her service she has been running like a dream, idle is beautifully low once warmed up, but when the choke is on she must be revving at about 2000rpm!! just wondering if it is possible to lower this without affecting anything else? as everything else is going so well.

so if i understand right, you loosen the 3 screws around the bell that faces you (faces the back of the car) and tweak it a little to one side? if so, which side to knock it down a notch? and how big is a tweak? does it affect anything else? how do i make sure the 2 carbs align (i assume this is crucial?)?

trial and error

"IF" i remember correctly clockwise holds it open more.

What ever - get a pencil and mark a line across fixed and moveable parts so you have a reference. there "should" be a factory reference mark anyway.
Just move it - you will understand which way "drives" it on more.

You need to adjust them so as thay open both the same after time.

By the way
adjusting them doesnt stop the high revs.
It will only stop how long the high revs lasts for.

ok, thanks, was a bit afraid of what i was playing with, have only had the old girl 7 months, and it seems up until now the choke has never worked properly, before the service she was spluttering out on cold mornings when i dropped the clutch at an intersection and she would often idle a little high when she was warm. now whe is like a kitten when warm, so quiet at slow idle i cant even hear it unless i am stopped, but during the warmup period she now idles so high that i simply leave her in first without touching the gas in carparks and have to use the brakes to slow down, because Im not used to it i get imbarresed sitting at lights cos to me it sounds like Im sitting with my foot on the gas ready to go!

just be aware that on pdsit carbs the chokes work in opposite directions to each other so do the reverse action when u get to the other side

The way i do it is to simply take the aircleaner off, loosen the screws on both chokes, then turn them back and forth, watching the choke butterflies until they line up! Tighten up the screws again and you're done! Simple!

Note.. engine must be cold!
