How can I make a case look NOS. Not just get it clean, but I want it to look like new. Hmm how do other people clean cases of 10-50 years of gunk?

Im going through a cleanout as I have to rationalise my 36hp engine collection. I think I have about 7 in various states of dissassembly and/or completeness. How do I know what to toss out? What are the critical points of a used 36hp case that make it junk? Likewise for pushrods and heads. Are new 36 horse heads available? What about pushrods, since I have up to 56 of them, are they worth keeping or toss? Ratty looking heater boxes?

Does anyone make 14mm AF M8 hardware? I'd rather chuck it all out than clean it.

Dont know about that gold colour, but if you remove all the bungs so you can clean out the passages afterward, you can have the case wet bead blasted.
An engine reconditioner can do it for you.
Dont throw anything till your finished.

What Dangerous said, get it wet bead blasted the finish is excellent, have done this process to several crankcases both type 1 and type 4, only cause i have access to the best cleaning equipment at my work.
This is my Volkswagen, there are many like it, but this one is mine. Without me my Volkswagen is useless, without my Volkswagen, I am useless.

Thanks. All my previous cases have been cleaned with scrapers, wire brushes, toothbrushes, and several cans of degreaser. Hate that job. When George Bush invades Australia he will think he has found oil when he gets to Warilla, theres that much of it in the ground here. That might happen soon if we dont help bomb Nth Korea!

Unfortunately the case that I have which is "correct" as far as engine number to year goes is actually painted gold. :duh

I'm moving and have to put everything I own in storage for 6 months or more while the new house is being built. Some things will have to go.

A mate of mine has system for recoing carbies. It involves about 4 or 5 different solutions to clean and coat the carb body. The point is the last solution coats the carb body with a goldish type coating similar looking to the engine pic above.
Maybe speak to a carb reconditioner in your area.
