There is a Judson Registry website you can look up. I'll see if I can find it.

ive already stumbled across website thanks.
i would love one but dont have the cash or approval from the financial advisor yet. just doing a bit of research. i plan to own a couple more beetles and thought it might be nice to purchase something with a bit more grunt than the 36 horse 56. trying to compare cost of buying another a tidy original oval or pre 60 with a rooted engine and recoing the donk and sticking a judson on, against trying to find the same vehicle in which somenoes already put a bigger donk. thanks rob.

Keep your eye out for Shorrock as well. Much better than the Judson as it has pressure relief values and is oiled by the motor, so no need for that oil bottle. If it runs dry your engine is dry. I know someone that has one but would never part with it. Last one I saw for sale was $3000.

i knew it dave

1 probably a 1200 in an early big window

2 no parts yet, looking into viability of sticking a judson in instead of a bigger engine

3 where do you get the housing from?

how much would you expect to pay for a complete setup?

i assume you would be crazy to slap one on anything besides a fresh engine?

havent got approval from the one who controls the funds yet just researching at this stage, but appreciate any guidance you can provide me(good or bad)

did you set yours up yourself dave?

thanks rob

Ok so you will be fitting up a 40hp 1200 engine

The 36 and 40 hp housings are different in that the mounting flange is offset for the 40hp
So if you find a housing then make sure the mounting studs are not equal distance from the flange ends, the 36hp the studs are the same distance

The housings will NOT interchange on the engines as you need extra clearence on a 40 hp to make it fit to the mainifold

the only place if seen bits for sale is on Ebay so expect to pay Ive seen kits go for 1000 to 1500 USD depending on whats in them

dont let anyone tell you you DONT need the Oiler its a must as the system relys on this oil to complete the seal inside the blower housing

Oh DONT expect any mind blowing performance, yes there good but NOT neck snapping as they only delivery approx 6 to 7lbs pressure

This will turn your 40hp engine into approx the same Hp as a single port 1600 but with a little more acceleration

yes i have set up several Judsons
I read it on FACEBOOK so it must be true

dave will the 40 horse drivetrain/gearbox handle the extra grunt? in your opinion am i better of putting a bigger engine in instead( thinking of dollar & effort comparison)?thanks rob.

yeah i think a single port 15 or 1600 would be more economical than trying to build a Judson from scratch and similar to more power as well

The Judson is great dont get me wrong but if its just more grunt then go the bigger engine

Judsons are for historic value if your that way inclined like me
yep the origional gearbox will handle the power with both applications providing its in good condition in the first place
