I'm pulling the engine apart at the moment and want to know what everyone else does to clean all there parts.
I'm currently using a can of degreaser and spray and wiping with limited success. Does anyone set up a bath or the like and what products do you use?
Heavy duty oven cleaner works a treat on all the steel parts. I also used odourless oven cleaner on the case. You have to be careful though becasue anything alkaline will attack aluminium alloy leaving it grey. Otherwise I would suggest buying a 4L bottle of solvent degreaser from your local hardward store and some small brushes. Then just soak and scrub, soak and scrub.
There was a recent post about wet bead blasting the case to get it looking like new.
Ain't nothin' like the wind in your hair.
wipe all with newspaper to get rid of the gunky stuff. Then Kero and a brush

Petrol and a stiff brush to remove the bad stuff, then the cheap $2 spray cans of degreaser, then wash off in water, with the hose or the pressure cleaner.
I usually then bead blast the tinware and repaint with black paint from a spray can.
Takes a full day at least to clean most engines for a rebuild. Its no fun either:o
