ok, i know they are trying to ban bullbars in general, but i have a huge steel bullbar on my bay kombi at the moment which was taken from an 80s carravell. with a spare wheel attached it is so heavy that it hits the road entering/exiting any sloped driveways and i am afraid that it will destroy my front suspension before long having so much weight hanging out the front of the van. it also angles outward which i know is illegal for new bullbars.
because of this i have just designed myself a new bullbar, using the original mounts, it is about 40-50cm shorter then the current one, angles backwards towards the vans nose as it should, and to keep weight down i would like to replace the normal side hoops you see on most bullbars with a single bar bent back to follow the vans bodywork.
do you think the single bar would be legal? i would prefer not to have the loop to save weight, but i would prefer not to have to have nothign at all there either cos i like the thought of having something between me and 4x4s.

interesting but a little vague, thanks bizzare. as the bar would be curving backwards following the curve of the car it would not be protruding from the front of the bar, but i do not know if a 80mm piece of tube can be called a jagged/sharp edge?

will try to get some pics up. as mentioned it angles out a bit, and they are a little difficult to mount (dont quite line up with enough chassis) so i just bought some 10mm plate. attached it to both sides of the Y in the chassis rail, bolted the rear mounts of the bullbar up to that, but it was so damn heavy it would flex and bounce, so i attached a strap of steel that sat in the groove of the bumper, attached to the car via the bumper bolts and bolted the bullbar to that and it worked a treat. i am just soo sick of having to inch out of driveways so as not to have the bullbar go smack on the road and i had heard rumours of heavy loads on the front of the car damaging/breaking torsion bars and causing front sag, but maybe (hopefully) that was just a rumour

Damn I love them bullbars!... I'm torn betwixt getting one of them to put on BC tho or keeping the nice clean bullbar-free lines. 😂

I really ought to have bars so I got some chance of repairing the bus if I get pummelled by summin... or at least walkin out alive! :duh:...and I need somewhere to put the spare! 😂

At the moment it's strapped in on top of the matresses! :duh 👎

I will keep in touch. You have dibs, and I hope you don't mind it is purple. 🙂

It was sandblasted to bare metal and only has that one coat of paint on it, so looks pretty good, especially if you paint it black or white like the bumperbar.

Speak to you soon,

Peter
