I look like heading over to the U.S in October for 3 weeks or so and was thinking about buying a project toy and bringing it back. Given that I am fairly comfortable with dubs now, I thought they would be safer for me to buy than a mustang, camaro etc.

I initially was leaning towards the thing, but then the ghias seem to be more plentiful and cheaper. I wasn't going to go crazy- was just thinking around $6000 US...(and then $3000 to bring home) have been having a look on the Samba- are there any other sites.

What is the concensus.

I'd have a KGhia over a Thing anyday. But I'd have a Beetle Cab over both and a Country Buggy over a Thing, but then again, I'd rather that Thing than just any old buggy, which you can get here anyway. 😵‍💫

What do YOU want?

I would go with a thing...

Fridolins were only used in Germany Austria etc by the post Offices... not the USA...

The type 181 thing would be very unique....
but its never going to be worth the same as a Karmann Ghia back here, even if You paid the same amount in the USA....
Karmann Ghias are nearly worth their weight in gold back here.... especially the cabriolets....

but I'd just love a thing....

Cars are such a personal thing. Get what you love and what you want!
I'd go for a Frid, but that's my thing, it may not be yours.
I'm sure that whatever you do will be the right thing if you feel comfortable with it and it makes you smile. That's what Dubs are all about.

Those Frids would be great for my sign business- anyone know of one.

Was leaning way ahead for the Ghia but am thinking I may need some rear seats in the near future, so that may not be wise...

There certainly are plenty of ghias over there to choose from..

Go THING.

Less rust problems, and you can dump it or raise it!

A thing would be rare over here that's for sure. I only know of 2 here.

The only thing is (no pun intended), if you plan to sell it, you can know what a ghia is worth here before you go, a thing is a bit more of gamble.

Theyre worth their weight in Ferrous Oxide. "Ghia... Italian for rust"

And after that, the name was cheapened when Ford took over and started naming shitbox XD fords ghia.
