As some might know, i'm having starter motor probs, seems to be a lack of electricity supply. I have wired after market things like airhorns, Golf waterbox, and thought i wired em up directly to the battery... But anyways...
just so i can check the fuse and which one is getting alot of draw from the points at the front, which ones the fuse for the starter/key ignition circuit?
cheers guys, any advice helps.

It should be the one closest to the steering wheel....
Horn & wipers use that one too, and they can only be used with the ignition on....

Thanx lee, will have to check it out then.
Cheers buddy.

Generally the starter doesn't run through any fuse.
DH
Depends whether the wiring has been fiddled with....
You said the starter motor works OK...
so the problem is the starter ignition switch usually...
When You go to start the engine the power goes from the battery all the way to the dash, to the ignition switch,
then all the way back to the starter motor....
I wired up someones Beetle and i put a start button under the rear seat in case the key switch wouldn't work...
Its better for the power to go from the battery, straight to the starter motor.... via a switch or relay..

one of the easiest things to do that gives a huge improvement to starting is the relay fitting
yea its only pulling in the solinoid but all that wiring it runs thro, plus a worn out old ignition switch can make starting a hot VW a real bitch sometimes
an if ur ignition switch does crap itself to get ur self going again easy all u have to do is bridge the coil wires on the relay and make sure its in neutral LOL
oh and chris the starter motor solinoid general pulls to much of a load to run thro a fuse
VW never ran it thro one

There will be some fuses that control those things like radio, ignition, oil light and wipers that only work when the ignition is on.
There is no fuse in the starter circuit. It goes permanently live from the battery, to the ignition switch in a big red wire, through the starter switch part of the keyed ignition switch and to the solenoid in a big but smaller red wire with a coloured tracer. That's it. No fuse is needed.
If your starter switch fails, you bypass the big red wires from the keyed switch and route them through a switch elsewhere. A big red button on the dashboard would look the business. The engine will crank over but it will not start if the ignition is not on.
Any other wire to your ignition switch controls the other stuff.
I agree, put a relay in - it's cheap.
Normally, the power required for the solenoid is wired from the battery through to near the fuse box, through the starter switch and then back past the battery to the starter itself. If everything is new and clean and shiny then this is fine.
We have old cars some as old as 50 years when we talk about our dubs.
Everything oxidises including the wiring and terminations (push on connectors, switch contacts) and causes resistance. Resistance reduces the current flow and causes voltage drop and yadayadayada people have problems with their starter even if there's nothing wrong with it.
If you install a relay you only need enough power through the switch and wiring to energise the coil of the relay (usually less than 0.1 amp). The power wiring only goes from the battery through the relay (mounted near the battery under the seat) and straight to the starter solenoid which is less than a foot away! Potential for much less resistance and more current available for the solenoid.
Anyhow I can show you how to do this if you want.
Then...if your ignition switch is the problem you can easily wire up a pushbutton on the dash for starting.
I also have an ignition relay setup... :jesus
Sorry for waffling on so much and probably stating the obvious just once or twice...
Hope this helps anyway.
Cheers,

.
Relay is in, and battery back on charge, fingers crossed for Saturday morning try out.
