Thought you might like to see what the Bug Jam (UK)weekend was like.
I cruised down to Santa Pod with my mate Matt in his `79 Karmann Kab Bug.
Anyway, check out this thread on volkszone, was hangin out with these guys all weekend.......................

Here`s some more pics...
We cruised down there from where I`m staying in the North West (Manchester area) with Matt`s mates from the Cheshair VW Club. On of the guys (Si) owns the most awesome Cal Look `59 Bug, but on the way down the end of the shaft snapped off his Alternator sending his pulley and fanbelt flying around his engine bay! The AA picked him up and brought him down to Bug Jam, sat in the que and everything!!
He then bought a new alternator, pulled his fan housing off etc and banged in the new one, then he took it down the strip!!!

Gettin into the spirit of things!!
After bad memories of warm beer at Bug Jam and 6 years in OZ where even the glasses are on ice, I had to make up a decent chillin system for the beers. I cut down a plastic garbage bin (the type with a lid and locking handles) it kind of worked in a telescopic sort of way, filled it with ice on the way down and then went and got some more on Saturday arvo. It`s not easy buying ice in the UK though, they don`t sell ice like in OZ, at every servo etc, you have to buy ice cubes for drinks from the freezer section of the local supermarket!! Works out quite expensive!!
On Saturday arvo a HUGE storm brewed up, something I have never witnessed at Bug Jam before. We thought it was going to miss us but the wind changed direction an we got totally pounded!!
We hid the the giant inflatable Marquee next to where we were camping............................
And we were havin a great time in there.................
But then the power went out due to the lightning and that`s not good for the mains voltage compressors keeping the inflatable marquee inflated!! It was bloody funny, the security guys in the tent were screaming "everybody out, get out!". So we did end up gettin wet after all!!!

The day turned out great though..................
And the evening entertainment is awesome. 2 huge marquees, an outdoor arena and massive funfair!
Then on Sunday the Show and shine was awesome!!!
Although my favourite cars didn`t have much shine left in the paint, or much paint come to think of it!!!
I have a feeling many of the rat fans on AVD will love the show and shine pics:P

Was hanging around with the CheshAir crew most of the weekend, If you have a look at the Vinyl Vera pics (click on the Volkszone link at the top of this thread) you`ll see a whole load of pics of them.
I`m here til 10th September so I`m going to be at Tatton Park, probably catch up with them again there. Just wish I was leaving on the 11th coz then I could get to Vanfest.....................
Where are you moving to in Adelaide???

The New Beetle Drag car in the last post is Bernard Newbury`s new car I think. It`s rear engined and aircooled!!
This was my favourite spot at Santa Pod, it was the kind of Rat Split corner. Heaven.
The last pic shows a Mango Green Bus which is almost identical to how my `59 will look, except mine is all one colour, no white top half. Very Filmore actually!!!

Yeah, the UK scene is awesome, it`s about the only thing that I miss about here when I`m back in OZ. I don`t think I`d move back permanently though, although a summer holiday each year (Bug Jam) would be cool. Too bloody expensive though, I reckon I`ll be back in about 5 years time though. I was saying to my mate Matt when we were walking round the show and shine that I do really miss the UK shows but it`s kind of good to give it a few years to generate new cars as you can tend to find that you only see one or two new cars each year and it all gets a bit boring looking at the same old shit every year.
Anyway, I`m not sure if thet Crewcab is a Binz, but I did notice it looked a bit different, the main thing I noticed was the Cut`n`shut side gates. I should have asked the guys sitting next to it but if I see it at VW Northwest in a couple of weeks, I`ll find out.

i don't know where in adelaide i'll end up yet, i'm actually moving with a mate of mine from sydney, we're just gonna rent a cheap place to start with, and then once we're settled in and i've saved a bit more dosh i'll look at buying a place.
i've actually been working in adelaide for the last couple of weeks, but i had a car crash on saturday (not my own fault) and now i can't work for a few days so i'm heading back to sydney for a break.
i'll keep you posted on when i move down and we can catch up for a drink sometime.
