Ive got a 1600 combi box and i ordered a new throw out bearing. The one i recieved pivits around to round studs, the one that came out of it has a flat extension on each side. What is the story?
Also Ive found the the second hand pressure plate i had lying around doesnt have a big enough diameter hole for the throw out bearing support tube to fit through....
Is it just the years that are out or is it because i have a 200mm clutch and the box may have been setup with the bigger one?
Any ideas
Thanks

I have a 1600 kombi box attached to a 2 litre motor in a bay kombi the pressure plate has 210 mm marked on it. the bell housing for 1600, 1800 kombi boxes are the same, as are the starter motors the clutch flywheel can be either 210 or 215 only the 2 litre is different 228 clutch flywheel and different starter motor. can't understand your throw out bearing problem i have 1600 1800 and 2 litre gearboxes all have very similar throwout bearings.
according to the bentley manual there are two versions of the throwout bearing the earlier one relates to 1968 to 1970 models the later one 1971 on. the later one has the flat extensions on either side.

Thanks, I must have a later model 1600 box then.
The clutch pressure plate fits diameter wise but the centre hole is too small for the throw out guide, maybe its a beetle one?
Am i right in thinking that this guide should go through the hole or is the one i have just too long?

yes it must be a beetle one
you are right the guide has to go into the hole of the pressure plate so as the splines on the drive shaft can locate into the splines on the clutch plate, i can measure my gearbox and clutch as to how far in the guide goes tomorrow and let you know the results

according to my approximate measurements the guide goes into the pressure plate hole about 15 to 20mm my pressure plate has a hole approx 45mm wide the guide is approx 35mm.
