I left for Valla Friday night after having to reset rear suspension, make a new battery bracket, take off my cool fish tail pipes to pass inspection and get rego at 4.55 friday arvo.Seemed to be going ok until the shitty little oval wiperz stopped. Some rain x was tried. That seemed to make it blurrey. So some rubber bands were used to hold some pressure on the wiper shaft. Was running smoothly again until coopernook our night took a turn when we broke a valve spring. After a couple of hours trying to arrainge some kind of set up so the valve wouldn't hit the piston yet keep some pressure on the collets we limped into Pt McQuarie at 4.30am.
A couple of hours sleep and I rang Stan the man to arrainge some repairs.A hire car saw us see some of the street parade on the way to Nana Glen before returning to Pt mcquarie with the $5. replacement spring. We were off again arriving in Nambucca about 7.30pm sat.
Starting the car Sunday morn and it wasn't a happy chappy,so, going through a process of elimination and replacing one fuel filter and cleaning the remaining three fuel filters, found one carbi needle seat had unwound about three turns. So finally arrived at Valla Park about 10.30 Sunday morn.
Had a good day nice cars, friendly people and thinking all our bad luck was behind us started off for home.Got to the other side of Macksville and the ol girl spluttered to a stop.On inspection found a air bleed needle on the left carbi missing. And to add to this the starter had carked it!
I was about this time thinking about hitching home, cause like where was i going to find such a rare part on a Sunday afternoon on the side of the road! When Rod Penrose stopped an pulled the part off a set of carbis he had in his ute. Also came back with a recoed starter and helped fit the lot.The new man?A ledgend anywho!
Off we went again cruizing through rain an hail to get 120 klms from home when whilst navagating a roundabout BANG,...CLUNk etc.Likily we were close to a friend house where the Ratsto slept whilst we all hitched home to return tonight (Monday) to retrieve.
I must thank Firstly Terry Green at Pt McQuarie Airport Vehicles for a dry hanger and a couch to use.He was even on the phone while we slept trying to locate parts for us with out knowing anything about vws.
Stan for lending us a tool to do the repair with out removing the head.Rod Penrose for roadside lengendness. And all who stopped Oval Tofu and others who jumped out of their cars toolboxs in hand! Many Thanks.
Not a great weekend, but one that won't easily be forgotton!
PS just dropped the oil out of the gearbox and metal chunks are blocking the drain hole!
